Ethnicity-Related Issues:
Caucasians, African-Americans, Asians, and other ethnic groups have unique considerations

Because of the nose's contribution to looks and its capacity for defining ethnicity and social class, the nose has long been a subject of debate and concern. While seeking individual uniqueness, people nevertheless do not want to "stand out in a crowd" by virtue of an oddly shaped or out-sized nose. People seek to be both unique and "normal". The nose, however, could reduce all the effort to shrill uselessness if the nose's owner clearly evidenced the marking of an "inferior class of person". And so the nose became a primary focal point for the development of cosmetic surgery procedures. Modifications equaled denial of ethnic inheritance.

For instance, if a child had been accidentally dropped during infancy, then a crushed nose might never fully recover its 'natural' form. To the aristocrat's eye a flat nose would never suffice, and would engender mockery and snits from social peers. An aristocrat's nose had the proper point or finish to it, such that a flat nose would never project. The aesthetic derived principally from the Grecian artistic sensibilities exhibited in sculpture and painting and where the noblest of persons were adorned with well shaped noses that finished on an aquine point much celebrated by admirers.
