From The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (2004 Statistics)
- Liposuction was the number one, most performed cosmetic surgery by ASPS member surgeons in 2004.
- ASPS member surgeons performed 324,891liposuction procedures in 2004, a 2% increase from the previous year.
- Patients aged 18 and younger made up 1% of the total liposuction procedures with 3,250 procedures, an 8% increase from the previous year.
- Patients aged 19 to 34 made up 28% of the total liposuction procedures with 90,969 procedures, a 0% change from the previous year.
- Patients aged 35 to 50 made up 51% of the total liposuction procedures with 165,694 procedures, a 2% increase from the previous year.
- Patients aged 51 to 64 made up 18% of the total liposuction procedures with 58,480 procedures, a 4% increase from the previous year.
- Patients aged 65 and over made up 2% of the total liposuction procedures with 6,498 procedures, a 9% decrease from the previous year.
- The national average surgeon/physician fee for liposuction charged by ASPS member surgeons in 2004 was $2,223. All members in total charged $722,232,693 for liposuction procedures. * These fees are averages only and do not include other related expenses such as those for anesthesia or operating room facilities.
- 90% of liposuction patients were women, totaling 292,402 procedures for 2004.
- 10% of liposuction patients were men, totaling 32,489 procedures for 2004.
