Blackberry Botox: Is technology causing premature wrinkles?

Is it true? Are our favorite gadgets giving us premature wrinkles? “Defensive Aging”, as we learned when Kim Kardashian coined the phrase in her “Kardashian Botox Plan”, is a growing trend, but can it really be traced to the use of our technology? One plastic surgeon in Baltimore was quoted saying, “We’ve just become more connected, and we’re using those devices more and more, and we’re overusing those muscles. So, I think we are seeing more and more patients that are more concerned about those hyper-animated lines that are developing”. Rhinoplasty, Face Contouring & Eyelid Surgery popular across Asia

People from all different economic levels across Asia have been seeking more plastic surgery this year. South Korea is one of the major hubs for new wealthy elite in China and across the rest of Asia for people seeking plastic surgery. The most popular procedures preformed include Rhinoplasty, Face Contouring, and Eyelid Surgery to achieve a more western appearance. What’s interesting is this trend appears to be in conjunction with the overall effects of globalization and competitiveness in the job market. Just like many business executives in the US have turned to plastic surgery and non-invasive procedures (i.e. Botox, facial fillers, lasers, etc.), many youth across all of Asia have done the same. Tell us your thoughts and opinions on this trend by posting a comment on Facebook or tweeting us @DrPhilipMiller.

Teens and plastic surgery

A growing trend of teens receiving plastic surgery caught the attention of CBS in Miami. Nationwide in 2008 alone over 300,000 teens underwent plastic surgery. And although three thousand of which were breast augmentations on women 18 years and younger, that number only represents 0.9% of the total breast augmentations in 2009. It is also important to note that out of the 300,000 procedures on teens, not all of them were for cosmetic reasons. Functional problems, such as a deviated septum, are also included in that statistic.
