Hello, my name is Dr. Philip Miller; I am a facial plastic surgeon here in Manhattan, New York. I’d like to talk to you today about fat transfer. What is it and why do we do it. Fat transfer may also be known as fat harvesting, fat grafting. The concept here is that sometimes are body needs volume enhancement. What I mean by the fact is that there are depressions in the face or there’s hollowness that we want to fill out. We can do that with artificial materials or injections that are on the market, that aren’t really of your own body. Or we can go ahead and harvest or take fat from other areas of your body process it and then inject it or place it in the areas that we need. This is done by going often to the belly or to the legs or to the side of the waist and putting a very very small cannula or very very small tube into that area and harvesting or sucking out small small little pieces of fat. Those are then processed and put into small syringes and then with another type of even smaller cannula or smaller little injection port, we can then introduce those small pieces of fat that were harvested elsewhere and inject them into di9ffernt parts of the face giving volume or enhancement to the check area or filling out regions that have become to hollow like the cheeks here or perhaps along the jaw line. So that is what fat harvesting and fat transfer is. I encourage you to see the other video that I’ve produced fat transfer in facelift surgery. This is Dr. Philip Miller from Manhattan talking about fat transfer, what is it is and why we do it.
