Myths About Face and Neck Lifts

1. Once you've had a facelift, you have to keep on having them.

False. A facelift can make you look five or ten years younger, and that improvement is permanent. That means that if you happen to be 55 now, and look 45 after surgery, you will continue to look ten years younger as the years pass. Many people have second operations when they again reach a point that they look older than they feel. Surgery can not stop you from aging, but it can help you look much better for your age.

2. Facelifts leave your skin looking stretched and unnatural.

False. When facelifts were done twenty years ago, they often resulted in that stretched look. The advanced techniques used today at NYU never produce this result. The result we strive for is a natural and unoperated look.

3. Facelifts are for old people.
False. Facelifts are for anyone, man or woman, old or young, who would like to look younger. Many people ask, "When am I ready for a facelift?" The answer is whenever you are dissatisfied with something along your jawline or neck that looks droopy, lumpy, or poorly defined. A facelift done at 45 will allow you that much longer to enjoy the results of your surgery. We will assess your features carefully during our first consultation and talk to you in detail about what face and neck lifts can and can not do for you.
