Wrinkles and Blemishes

Lasers

Perhaps the most dramatic advances in surgery have been in laser technology. New lasers are small and versatile. These characteristics make them ideal for the meticulous treatment of certain problems in facial plastic surgery. We use lasers only when they have proven themselves superior to more conventional treatments. We prefer to wait until a technology has proven itself as superior to existing ones and is just as safe, or safer. New technologies are exciting, as long as they are used wisely and only after they have proven their worth. We use this new technology in different ways.

CO2 laser skin resurfacing -- used for eliminating specific facial wrinkles. Part or all of the face may be lasered for elimination of deeper wrinkles. This is performed under intravenous sedation in the operating room.

Recovery -- After a laser treatment of the skin, the treated skin will be red and mildly swollen, like a sunburn. The area may peel for about seven days, and be pink for about two weeks. Make-up can be used after the peeling stops. Redness may be prolonged in certain individuals.

CO2 or KTP laser for nasal surgery -- If you have difficulty breathing because your nose is very sensitive to allergies, we may use a laser to shrink the inferior turbinate on each side. The turbinate is the air purifier for the nose, warming, filtering, and humidifying the air we breathe. However, when it swells it is a major cause of nasal obstruction. The laser is a time-proven, safe method of reliably decreasing the size of the turbinates. Not everyone can benefit from the laser. We will let you know whether you might during our consultation
