OPEN RHINOPLASTY

What's the difference between Open Rhinoplasty and Closed Rhinoplasty?

Open Rhinoplasty starts with a small incision made in the columella, which is what separates the two nostrils. The Open Rhinoplasty incision allows the nasal skin to be lifted off of the tip of the nose. Primarily that is the only difference between the Open Rhinoplasty and Closed Rhinoplasty procedures. In both surgeries, other incisions will be used inside of the nose, but the Open Rhinoplasty technique has that one little extra incision at the base of the nose.

Many plastic surgeons feel the Open Rhinoplasty procedure has a huge advantage over the closed technique. Primarily it allows for the surgeon to see and work on the nasal tip cartilage in their natural state. The Open Rhinoplasty procedure makes it easier for the surgeon to accomplish their tasks since the skin is lifted up. Open Rhinoplasty scarring is minimal.
