A new drink in China available at major department stores, contains fish collagen and claims “Take a collagen drink for 30 days and have skin as soft as a baby’s”. It’s one of the latest trends in the $5.3 billion skin care industry in China. Collagen, of course, has been used as an injection for years in the cosmetic world, but this is one of the first times it has been incorporated in a drinkable form. However, before you hop on the next flight to Beijing or Shanghai, be advised that not everyone in the medical community is convinced of this, “magical drink”. In fact, the reason this drink has not hit the US market is because most doctors would agree that the amount of collagen absorbed in the digestive system is not enough to make a visible difference. Instead, the antioxidants in fruits and vegetables can actually help visibly reduce the signs of aging over time. So next time when you’re on the phone and your mother tells you to make sure you’re eating your fruits and vegetables, remember not only will the antioxidants help in preventing diseases and illnesses, but they may also reduce your wrinkles as well 😉
