Buccal Fat Overview

A buccal fat excision is performed when the patient is interested in making the bottom third of the face more slender. Certain individuals have fullness in the lower cheek region and prefer a more slender lower third of the face. An approximation of the effect of the buccal fat excision would be if an individual "sucks in" their cheeks and appreciates the refined appearance of the lower third of their face.

The buccal fat excision is performed by making a small incision on the inside of the mouth and removing the fat which is responsible for causing this fullness. There are no incisions on the outside of the face. Recovery is a couple of days with minimal swelling and no bruising.
