Lenox Hill Neighborhood
Situated amongst some of New York City’s most alluring natural sceneries and landmarks, Lenox Hill possesses the look and feel of a residential neighborhood, offering residents a suburban retreat with a welcomed cosmopolitan flair.
About Lenox Hill
An Upper East Side neighborhood, Lenox Hill is named after the hill that once stood on 70th Street and Park Avenue. The name “Lenox,” on the other hand, came from the Scottish immigrant, Robert Lenox, who owned 30 acres of land, spanning Fifth to Fourth (Park) Avenues and from East 74th to 68th Streets.
What adds to this affluent neighborhood’s charm is the mix of brownstones or prewar buildings and upscale 19th-century residences that give the area an old-world, New York glamour vibe.
Dining Options
Lenox Hill and its surrounding areas offer many exciting dining options for residents and visitors alike.
Inspired by the lively atmosphere and sumptuous food of the Barcelona “Kiosko” (food and refreshments stand), Boqueria is a popular tapas bar that offers diners Catalonia’s local flavors. Classic Spanish tapas and small plates feature the season’s best ingredients. Dishes designed for sharing include Paella de Mariscos, grilled octopus with fennel, and Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp with garlic), served with house-made sangria or lightly sparkling cava.
NR stands in a former seamstress factory tucked away on a side street. Its innocuous spot gives this Japanese cocktail bar and restaurant a speakeasy atmosphere that promises food and drink worthy of being filed under “best-kept secrets” waiting to be discovered. Diners can enjoy classic and seasonal ramen creations alongside tailored cocktails served in creative vessels.
Lenox Hill: Do and See
Lenox Hill and its surrounding areas make for an enchanting place for museum-goers, nature enthusiasts, and animal lovers.
The Metropolitan Museum is one of the largest and most comprehensive art museums in the world. With over two million works of art spanning 5,000 years, including paintings, sculptures, costumes, instruments, architecture, and armor, divided among 17 curatorial departments. The Met remains one of NYC’s most-visited cultural attractions.
Originally designed as an extension of Central Park offering urban dwellers a leisure getaway, Central Park Zoo gradually developed over the decades as a zoological garden that successfully recreates natural habitats in urban environments. Today, the 7-acre zoo is home to sea lions, penguins, snow monkeys, snow leopards, brown bears, and red pandas, giving visitors a chance to experience wildlife in the heart of the city.
