Hell’s Kitchen NYC
On the West Side of Midtown Manhattan lies a neighborhood that goes by Hell’s Kitchen, and it has a very interesting history due to the changes in culture it has faced. When one thinks of Hell’s Kitchen, they might assume that it is an area that is teeming with amazing restaurants, pizza parlors, or ice cream shops, but that is actually not what Hell’s Kitchen is usually known for. Hell’s Kitchen was actually a fairly rough part of New York City that was filled with poor working class Irish-Americans, and it was a rough and gritty area. They had below average real estate prices, but as the years went on, the personality of Hell’s Kitchen has greatly changed. Nowadays, it is becoming more and more gentrified with aspiring actors, musicians, and Wall Street bankers moving in to find a more affordable area of living compared to the rest of Manhattan.
Despite the formerly gritty reputation, there are actually many nice things to do in Hell’s Kitchen, and it is not a very dangerous area at all. Located in Hell’s Kitchen is the New York Public Library’s Columbus Branch, and it has been there for over 100 years. Additionally, the Marvel comic superhero, Daredevil, was born and works in Hell’s Kitchen.
With a name like Hell’s Kitchen, it is worth noting that there are some noteworthy restaurants in the neighborhood that tourists should consider going to. In the heart of Hell’s Kitchen not too far from Times Square is a row of restaurants, and one of them is a famous Michelin one star restaurant called Tim Ho Wan. It originated from Hong Kong, and it is known as one of the cheapest Michelin star restaurants. They offer small plates that are delicious to share, and the final price of the bill is usually quite affordable. If you’re looking for a meaty cuisine, the Bolivian Llama Party is a restaurant that you should visit. They have delicious sandwiches, great low prices, and it is located at a very cool subway stall.
Once you are done eating at Hell’s Kitchen, a quick trip will take you to the Vessel, which is an architectural masterpiece that was just recently completed in the West Side of Midtown Manhattan.
