PDO Thread Lifts in NYC

Alternatives to traditional surgical facelifts continue improving and growing in popularity. One of the best non-surgical options for lifting the face and neck is PDO thread lifting. Dr. Miller has been watching new developments in threading, and with the latest threading technology advancements, he is now proud to offer this procedure in his New York office for patients looking for a non-surgical lifting option.

What is a PDO Thread Lift?

A PDO thread lift uses absorbable stitches, strategically placed under the skin to lift and enhance the balance and proportions of the face. Dr. Miller uses the MINT PDO threads, which offer a superior result to other types of sutures. MINT threads have small barbs along them that anchor the sutures in place and actually draw up the tissue to produce a more youthful appearance.

A thread lift can provide similar results to a Miller Lift, but without the use of fillers. PDO stands for polydiaxone, which is the name of the stitch material used to lift the tissue. Local anesthesia is used, so patients remain awake during the procedure. You will see your results immediately. The procedure is short, usually lasting under a half hour. There is no recovery downtime.

What areas can be lifted with a PDO Thread Lift?

  • Mid-face and cheeks
  • Lower-face and jowls
  • Eyebrows
  • Neck

A thread lift may also contour the jawline and smooth smile lines. Other looks that can be achieved with thread lifting techniques include the "cat eye," a brow lift, neck lift, and lower facelift procedures. Dr. Miller can use this technique for any of these outcomes.

How do I know which type of lift is right for me?

PDO thread lifts and surgical lifts can help patients achieve a lifted, youthful appearance, but their differences in longevity, results, downtime, and cost can help you decide which is best for you. Surgical lifting typically lasts 5 to 15 times longer than a thread lift. Thread lifts are quicker, do not require downtime, and are more affordable.

Thread lifts may be a better option for young patients just looking to tweak their facial proportions, not dramatically change their face. Patients who are not good candidates for surgery based on their health or those who cannot take the time to recover from surgery can turn to a thread lift instead.

What is recovery like after a PDO Thread Lift?

You could experience soreness for up to two weeks after the procedure, but to help with this, you can take over the counter medication. You may need this medication for a few days. Swelling and bruising are possible, but they will likely be unnoticeable to a stranger.

Patients who received a thread lift on the lower region of their face have described feeling tightness when opening their mouths. In most cases, swelling peaks at 48 hours post-procedure, and it diminishes within a week. Patients should avoid strenuous activity and facial movements for two to three weeks. If you have a special occasion coming up, consider getting this procedure at least three weeks before your event to ensure adequate time for healing.

Recovery after a PDO thread lift is dependent on the extent of the treatment and the steps you take before and after the procedure to ensure a quick recovery. To learn more about PDO threadlift, visit the ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.

Thread Lift FAQs

Q: How long will my Thread Lift last?

A: The threads Dr. Miller uses are absorbable, so the results do not last forever. Your lift will likely last between 6 to 12 months, depending on your age and the area of your face or neck that was lifted. Typically, the lift will begin to lessen around the 6 month mark.

Q: Will I feel pain from my PDO Thread Lift?

A: We want to minimize your pain and keep you comfortable at our New York offices. We offer local anesthesia and Pro Nox (laughing gas) to minimize your discomfort.

Q: Can I speed up my Thread Lift recovery?

A: We recommend several tactics for minimizing bruising after your procedure. A few of these tactics are avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, alcohol, and multivitamins before your procedure. After your thread lift, you should sleep with your head elevated, apply a cold compress to the region, and avoid strenuous activity for 1-2 weeks.
