Facial Reconstruction
Facial reconstruction is the process of repairing and restoring the physical or functional appearance of the face. This can include congenital malformations and birth defect, facial scars or blemishes, problems resulting from an accident, or alterations after cancer or tumor surgery. Dr. Miller in New York City can correct areas of the face and neck, as well as improve the proportion of the features with facial reconstructive surgery; providing dramatic, life-changing results; improving a patient’s confidence and self-esteem.
Who is a Candidate for Facial Reconstruction Surgery?
Ideal candidates for facial reconstruction surgery should be in generally good health, with reasonable expectations from the procedure. Satisfactory results can be seen in young children all the way up to older adults; and can benefit any ethnicity.
A consultation with Dr. Miller in his New York City office will be initially set up to discuss the potential improvements from facial reconstruction surgery. A brief physical exam will be performed, recent Before/After photos shown, and an explanation of the exact procedure will be given. Dr. Miller will evaluate if a facial reconstructive procedure is best suited for your individual situation. If so, a unique surgical plan will be created, keeping your needs and desires in mind.
Potential Risks from Facial Reconstruction
While reconstructive procedures are considered safe and efficient, they are invasive and may hold some small degree of risk. Problems that may occur after surgery include poor wound healing, excessive bleeding, infection, scarring, and asymmetry. Using an experienced, skilled, board-certified surgeon – like Dr. Miller – is the best way for patients to guarantee a complication-free procedure and recovery.
Recovery After Facial Reconstruction Surgery
There are a wide variety of facial reconstruction procedures, each of which will have its own specific expected recovery time. Patients should be prepared to experience mild to moderate pain over the first few days; Dr. Miller will prescribe appropriate pain medications for comfort while healing. Swelling and bruising are common after a surgical procedure and make take several weeks to fully disappear. A compression garment is required after some surgical procedures, others may have drain tubes or bandages. Patients should commit to the full amount of suggested downtime, after a reconstructive procedure; only returning to work or school when adequate healing has occurred. At your consultation appointment in New York City, very clear recovery information will be provided.

Otoplasty
While many people never give a second thought to the ears, when they are poorly shaped or unusual in size, the ears can grab the unwanted attention of others. Misshapen or protruding ears can be devastating and humiliating; the sense of self-esteem can be severely impacted, especially in children and adolescents. Teasing and bullying because of ‘different’ looking ears is common. Adults as well, can experience a loss of confidence. Only a surgical intervention can improve the appearance of the ears.
Otoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the ears. Patients with oversized, misshapen, or protruding ears can see dramatic improvement after an otoplasty procedure. The reconstructive surgery in Dr. Miller’s New York City surgery center can fix all aesthetic issues of the ear, ranging from a birth defect to an unnatural shape after an injury.
A successful otoplasty can be performed on both an adult patient, as well as children. Once the ears are close to fully developed, the surgical procedure can effectively reshape their size, shape, and position on the head.
Am I a Good Candidate for Ear Surgery?
Healthy men and women, as well as children as young as five, may make an excellent otoplasty candidate. People experiencing a malformation, asymmetry, or an unusual protrusion of the ears can find satisfying results through an otoplasty. It is recommended that the ears be between 85-90% developed prior to surgery, which occurs between the ages of five and six. The ideal patient will understand the procedure, commit to the recovery time required, and have realistic surgical expectations.
What Can I Expect During Otoplasty Surgery?
In our New York office, Dr. Philip Miller normally performs his otoplasty procedure under a local anesthetic. For children, however, general anesthesia may be recommended. The procedure will take between one and two hours to complete. To begin, Dr. Miller will make a small crease behind the ear, or depending on the desired correction, a tiny incision on the front crease of the ear. From here, the cartilage of the ear will be reshaped, and the repositioned closer to the head. Abnormalities of the earlobe will be addressed. Finally, sutures will be used to hold the ear in place while it heals.

How Long is Recovery After Ear Surgery?
Patients should expect the recovery from an otoplasty to take from one to two weeks. Initially, there may be mild discomfort, but Dr. Miller will make sure patients are resting comfortably at home with the appropriate pain medications. Bruising and swelling may occur, but will diminish over the next two to three weeks. A headband may be required, to assist in the appropriate healing of the ears. Patients are normally feeling well enough to return to work or school in seven to ten days.

Preparing for Otoplasty Surgery
Potential patients should first take time to research the otoplasty procedure. Today, excellent resources are available online. If you are still interested after reading up on the procedure, contact Dr. Miller’s office in New York City.
Before scheduling your otoplasty, a consultation with Dr. Miller will be scheduled. This will provide a time for the surgeon to review your medical history, previous procedures, and the current surgical options, as well as the goals and desires for ear reconstruction. Dr. Miller will carefully explain how the otoplasty is performed and detail the recovery period through his proprietary NatraLook® Process. If an otoplasty is the right procedure for your specific needs, a unique surgical plan will be created. Once the exact cost of your otoplasty is determined, the patient coordinator will detail your payment choices, including healthcare financing.
Once an otoplasty has been decided upon, it is time to prepare for the procedure. Dr. Miller will give patients clear post-surgical directions when the otoplasty is scheduled. To ensure a safe and satisfactory healing process, patients should also remember a few key points before their scheduled procedure:
- Carefully review post-surgical instructions that are given during the consultation appointment with Dr. Miller. If you have any questions or concerns, call the office to have before the day of your scheduled Otoplasty procedure.
- If prescription medications will be required, pick them up at the pharmacy before the day of the surgery. You will not feel like waiting hours to pick up pain medication in a crowded pharmacy the evening of your surgery.
- Arrange for a ride home from the surgical center. Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure, but you will need someone to drive you home.
- Be sure to place important numbers in an easy to see place. It is not wise to wait until a problem arises to search for a phone or insurance number.
- Plan ahead and schedule all of your follow-up appointments with Dr. Miller. Get these on your calendar; follow-up visits are important for a safe and efficient recovery.

Chin and Cheek Augmentation
A chin augmentation is a surgical procedure performed by New York surgeon Dr. Philip Miller that uses a pre-formed silicone implant to improve the overall facial appearance. Correcting a small or weak chin, a chin implant can benefit the proportion of the lower face and jaw; improving the look of all the features, such as the nose and cheeks. The aesthetic balance provided by a chin implant can provide dramatic results for patients frustrated with their appearance.
The ideal chin implant patient will be in overall good health, with realistic surgical expectations. Anyone, man or woman, dealing with an underdeveloped or weak chin, may find excellent results from the chin implant procedure.
Preparing for Chin Implant Surgery in NYC
To begin your chin implant journey, take some time to research the procedure and the recovery process online. What to Expect During a Chin Implant
The chin implant procedure will take approximately 30 minutes, performed under a local anesthetic. A small incision will be made along the crease below the chin, or inside the lower lip, through which Dr. Miller will place the chin implant. This will be anchored in place, and finally, sutures are placed.
The chin implant procedure can be combined with other cosmetic procedures for optimal results. These can include Botox Cosmetic, dermal fillers, and cheek implants. The procedure can also be easily combined with fat removal of the chin and neck – referred to a submental lipectomy.
Chin Augmentation FAQ
Q: What are the potential risks with a chin augmentation procedure?
A: Chin augmentation is considered a safe procedure. Patients rarely experience complications, but on the rare chance, they may include scarring, delayed wound healing, or permanent numbness. Cheek Implants New York City Overview
Facial features are meant to work in harmony with one other, creating an attractive appearance. When one feature is out of proportion with other areas, facial balance is lost. Small, or flat cheekbones will rob the face of a healthy contour, and cause other features, like the nose, to look overly large.
Cheek implants are designed to improve the look shape of the cheekbones, adding an appropriate proportion to the facial features. Dr. Miller utilizes a special medical-grade material, that both looks and feels like bone, to restore healthy contour to the cheeks. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes, easily tailored for each individual patient. By simply addressing the cheeks, all of the features can come together for an aesthetically pleasing look. A dramatic improvement can be seen in the appearance.
Who is a Candidate for Cheek Implants?
Patients in good health, with realistic surgical goals, can make an excellent candidate for a cheek implants procedure. Patients frustrated with flat cheekbones or disproportional features may find they benefit from this invasive surgery. A good augmentation patient may also have small cheekbones, lack of fullness in the cheeks, poor facial asymmetry, or the desire to permanently improve the harmony between all of their facial features.
Preparing for Cheek Implant Surgery in Manhattan
First, go online and research the cheek implant procedure. Understand how the procedure is performed and look over multiple Before/After photos. If cheek implants still seem right for you, schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Miller. As a pioneer in the field of facial aesthetics, Dr. Miller uses his proprietary NatraLook® Process to ensure you achieve your desired results. The consultation appointment is a vital part of the surgical process. Dr. Miller will take this opportunity to review your medical history, perform a quick exam, and discuss goals for surgery. He will explain the procedure in detail, as well as what to expect from the recovery period. If cheek implants are right for your situation, a unique surgical plan will be developed with your goals in mind.
What to Expect for a Cheek Implant
The cheek implant procedure will take between one and two hours to complete, performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Miller will make a small incision on the inside of each cheek; from here the implant will be inserted. The implants are placed into a pocket, located within the targeted area of the cheek. Dr. Miller will safely secure the implants, so they will remain in place. The incisions are sutured closed, allowing for appropriate healing.
Cheek Implant FAQ
Q: What are the risks from a cheek implant procedure?
A: The cheek implant procedure is considered both safe and effective. Rarely do complications occur, but they do, can include scarring, infection, asymmetry, implant migration, and nerve injury. Patients should only see a board certified cosmetic surgeon, like Dr. Miller, for their Cheek Implant procedure. This will further reduce the risk for complications.
Q: What is the recovery period like after cheek implants?
A: The recovery time from cheek implants is approximately two weeks. Initially, patients may notice some bit of swelling and bruising along the cheek or under the eye. This will fade over the first week or two. Keeping your head elevated and applying cold compresses will help to alleviate swelling. Mild pain may be experienced, but Dr. Miller will prescribe appropriate medications to keep his patients healing comfortably at home. Dr. Miller utilizes dissolvable sutures, so these will not need to be removed, although a follow-up appointment will be scheduled. Patients are normally feeling well enough to return to work in a week, possibly sooner. Strenuous exercise, however, should be postponed for four to six weeks.
Q: When can I return to work after cheek implants?
A: Most patients feel well enough and are comfortable enough with their appearance, to return to work or school in three to five days.
Q: How should I prepare for my cheek implant procedure?
A: Do your homework. Understand the cheek implant procedure and recovery. If there are any questions remaining after the consultation appointment with Dr. Miller, contact our office in New York City immediately.
Q: How long is the cheek implant procedure?
A: The cheek implant procedure will take between one and two hours to complete, from start to finish.

Blepharoplasty in New York City
Brow Lift
Drooping of the eyebrows and wrinkling of the forehead can make patients appear older and less energetic than they feel. In order to help patients regain the youthful look they once had, Dr. Philip Miller, a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon in New York, NY, performs the brow lift procedure.
The eyes are one of the most telling features of the face. Attention is drawn away from them when the eyelids are hooded and the forehead is wrinkled due to a falling or dropping brow. This can make patients appear tired, old, and/or angry. To combat this, a brow lift procedure can be performed. Men and women who have the height of their eyebrow slightly increased as a result of a brow lift appear younger and more alert and energetic.
The Brow Lift Procedure
A brow lift may be performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia. After the medication is delivered and the patient is completely comfortable or asleep, an incision is made within the hairline. The procedure is then performed through the following steps:
- Loose skin and weakened muscle are separated from the frontal, or forehead, bone
- Portions of weakened muscles near the eyelids are removed and the brow is lifted
- The lifted brow is fixated using sutures or absorbable fixation devices
The incision is then closed. Typical procedure time is approximately two hours at our NYC surgery office.
Brow Lift Recovery
Patients generally return home the day of surgery after the effects of surgical anesthesia and medications have worn off. While there is very little swelling and bruising, there may be numbness in the forehead and scalp and it may feel funny to raise the eyebrows. Patients are usually allowed to return to work ten days after surgery and return to routine activities and exercise in three weeks.
Brow Lift Results
After a brow lift procedure, the following results are seen:
- Wrinkle lines across the forehead, bridge of the nose, and between the eyes are reduced
- Frown lines are improved
- The brow is raised
Patients may look anywhere from five to ten years younger.
Good Candidates for a Brow Lift
Good candidates for a brow lift include the following:
- Men and women who have forehead features that have undergone age-related changes
- Men and women who look in the mirror and see a tired, angry, or sad version of themselves
- Patients who have blurred vision due to a drooping brow
The procedure is generally performed on healthy, nonsmoking adults who have realistic expectations and a positive mindset.
An Initial Consultation with Dr. Miller
Patients interested in a brow lift procedure will have an intensive initial consultation in our New York City surgery center. Dr. Miller’s proprietary NatraLook® Experience is a collaborative effort that enables each patient to achieve their desired results. A NatraLook consultation includes the following:
- A thorough medical history review
- A physical examination, in which Dr. Miller may take pictures for review
- A discussion regarding goals, expected results, and alternative treatment options
A question and answer session are also held. During this time, Dr. Miller patiently listens and thoroughly answers all questions and addresses any concerns.
Brow Lift FAQ
Q: Are there risks associated with a brow lift?
A: As with all surgical procedures, there are risks associated with a brow lift, including but not limited to the following: infection, bleeding, loss of hair, skin numbness and itching, and surgical anesthesia side effects. These risks will be explained by Dr. Miller at your initial consultation.
Q: Will I have a scar after my procedure? Will it be noticeable?
A: Scars always form after a surgical incision; however, the scar from a brow lift is generally unnoticeable because the incision is carefully placed and well concealed within the hairline.
Q: Can a brow lift be combined with other procedures?
A: A brow lift can, and very often is, performed in combination with any, all, or any combination of the following procedures:
- A facelift
- A neck lift
- An eyelid lift
The goal of combining procedures is to more thoroughly rejuvenate the facial appearance.
Q: How long does it take to see results?
A: Patients typically see maximum results approximately 6-8-weeks after surgery.
Q: Is it important to have my procedure performed by a specialist?
A: Because most facial specialists perform brow lift procedures on a routine basis, they typically are the most qualified surgeons to perform the procedure. Their expert training, knowledge, and skill set helps to provide patients with the best results.
Q: Are plastic surgeons the only physicians who can perform brow lifts?
A: Plastic surgeons are the only physicians who can perform brow lifts. When searching for a plastic surgeon, always look for one that is board certified.
Q: Does a brow lift make men look feminine?
A: The natural position of the male eyebrow is slightly lower than that of the female. Taking this into account, Dr. Miller takes special care to make his male patients look great without elevating the eyebrows too much.
Q: Are brow lifts performed to help patients with vision problems?
A: Patients, usually males, may develop blurry vision because of a sagging or drooping brow. When indicated, a brow lift may be performed to improve vision by raising the brow and opening the eyes.
Q: Does hair loss occur after a brow lift?
A: There is a small chance that hair loss may occur after a brow lift. In almost all cases, the positive outcomes of a brow lift far outweigh the chance that hair loss may occur.
Q: Will Dr. Miller take before and after photos?
A: Dr. Miller takes before and after photos so his patients can compare them and see their results.
Q: Can I see some before and after photos of some of Dr. Miller’s patients?
A: Yes, of course! Before and after photos are a great way to show you what you can expect after surgery. Dr. Miller has a long list of satisfied patients and will be able to show you which ones you most closely resemble to help you visualize your own potential results.
Q: Are there ways to maximize my results?
A: Healthy, non-smoking patients who take care of their skin and apply sunscreen typically see maximum results. Additional measures that may be taken include the following:
- Routinely exercising
- Eating a well-balanced diet
- Finding ways to reduce or eliminate stress
Getting an adequate amount of sleep is also recommended, as fatigue is one of the main reasons why wrinkles may redevelop.
Q: Will smoking affect my results?
A: Smoking negatively affects the body’s healing processes. Patients who want results are advised not to smoke after surgery.
Q: How do I determine if I am a candidate?
A: The best way to determine If you are a candidate is to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Miller in New York. Your condition, medical history, and goals and expectations will be taken into account when determining if a brow lift is the right procedure for you.
Q: What should I bring to my initial consultation?
A: Before your initial consultation, you should have a clear idea of what your goals and expectations are. Some patients find it helpful to write them down and bring them with them. In addition, Dr. Miller encourages patients to bring the following:
- A list of all medications taken and a drug allergy list
- A list of questions for Dr. Miller
- A list of concerns
Patients who want to bring photos for comparison purposes may do so.
Q: How do I make an appointment?

Through this, Dr. Miller meticulously advances the skin and tissue in the same direction – mimicking how it would move in a ponytail. Excess skin and tissue will be carefully trimmed; the incisions will then be closed.
Patients are able to rest and heal in the comfort of their own homes the same afternoon as their microlift. In a few days, patients will return to the office for a follow-up with Dr. Miller in Manhattan and to have sutures removed.
Who is a candidate for the microlift?
To determine if you are a good candidate for this minimally-invasive facelift technique, use your index fingers to pull the skin of your temples upward and backward and look in the mirror. Do you like what you see? Does the lift open up your eyes, making you look awake and refreshed? Are your cheekbones increasingly defined, and your skin youthfully taut? If so, you are an excellent candidate for the microlift.
Women who want to erase the early signs of aging, experience long-lasting results, and postpone the need for a full facelift can find their desired results through the microlift. MicroLift FAQs:
Q: How do I prepare for the microlift in New York?
A: During the initial office visit, Dr. Miller will review your medical history, do a brief physical exam, and discuss your needs and goals. At this time, he will help you determine whether the microlift is the right fit for your specific needs.
During the consultation, Dr. Miller will explain the microlift procedure and the recovery process. If you have any questions, contact our office at any time.
Q: What is the recovery from a microlift like?
A: The microlift is a minimally-invasive procedure, requiring little downtime. Patients may notice minor swelling and redness at the incision site immediately following surgery, but this will quickly fade. On the rare chance bruising occurs, it will likely resolve in about one week. The microlift results in very little discomfort, although tightness or temporary numbness in the cheek area may occur. Patients are usually able to return to work or school within a couple of days of their procedure.
Q: What are the potential risks with the microlift?
A: The microlift is considered an extremely safe and effective procedure. The chance for complications is extremely rare, although they might include excessive bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing, and asymmetry.
Q: What are the benefits of the facelift using the micro technique?
A: A micro facelift provides several benefits, including mimicking the effect of having a ponytail, to patients considering rejuvenating their appearance. These benefits include:
- Addresses early signs of aging
- Lifts the midface
- Delays the need for more extensive surgery
- Offers a minimally-invasive option
- Requires local anesthesia instead of general
- Involves shorter incisions than traditional facelifts
- Offers a shorter recovery time
Q: How is a micro facelift different from a regular facelift?
A: The placement of incisions differentiates a micro facelift from a regular facelift.
A regular facelift involves longer incisions around the ear and into the scalp. This allows the surgeon to remove loose skin, lift the lower face, and improve advanced signs of aging in the neck.
A micro facelift is minimally-invasive and involves one incision behind the ear. Surgery targets the upper two-thirds of the face. Because it is not as extensive as a regular facelift, the recovery time is shorter.

Neck Lift
One of the first locations that show signs of aging on the body is the neck. Your skin may begin to sag and wrinkle. Extra folds of skin create the appearance of a “double chin” or “bands” under the jawline. Fortunately, the youthful appearance of your neck can be restored with a platsymaplasty, or neck lift.
With a neck lift procedure, Dr. Philip Miller in New York, is able to diminish the toll that time and gravity have taken on the neck. Often, patients may undergo neck lift surgery in conjunction with a facelift for a comprehensive rejuvenation of the head region.

Before and after of a neck lift to reduce loose skin in the neck underneath the chin *Patient results may vary
About the Neck Lift Surgery
During this surgery general anesthesia is administered for the removal and tightening of the excess skin, muscles, and tissues. Fat may also be removed. When a neck lift is performed on its own there are different options for techniques that can be used. Liposuction may be used to remove excess fat with the use of a narrow tube called a cannula. The cannula dislodges fat and removes it through a small incision below the chin. Once the extra volume is gone, skin can be excised and tightened. This tightening is also done in many instances where liposuction has not occurred to address skin that has begun to sag as a result of time. Incisions are placed under the chin and/or behind the ears and gently pulled back.
Bandages are applied at the end of the neck lift. An elastic garment may be recommended to be worn for a period of time. Dressing and drainage tubes placed during surgery may be removed within 1 to 2 days. Sutures are removed within 5 to 10 days.

What to Expect During Recovery
Neck Lift FAQs
What are the benefits of neck lift surgery?
For those struggling with loose, sagging skin or a poorly defined neck, a neck lift surgery can be advantageous. Neck lift surgery benefits include:
- Results that can last for 10-15 years
- 2-week recovery time and only minor discomfort
- Minimal scarring – any scars that develop are discreetly placed and will fade within a year
- A younger-looking appearance with a contoured neck and jawline
- A boost in self-confidence
Who is a good candidate for a neck lift?
Are neck lift results permanent?
Because we cannot stop the aging process, the neck will gradually start to show age over time. However, a neck lift procedure can last for 10-15 years. You can also help prolong results with a healthy lifestyle, particularly by maintaining a healthy weight and skincare regimen, not smoking, and regularly using sun protection (sun exposure can damage skin elastin and promote signs of aging). Non-surgical cosmetic laser, radiofrequency, and ultrasound devices, which all boost collagen production, can help extend the longevity of your results too.
Can a neck lift be combined with a facelift?
To ensure you achieve the best results possible, Dr. Miller developed a proprietary consultation process called NatraLook®. During your NatraLook consultation, he evaluates your skin quality and facial features while listening to your concerns and goals. This process evaluates and expands the typical plastic surgery experience into a safe, collaborative environment where you can explore your aesthetic confidence. This opportunity allows you and Dr. Miller to create a unified vision for your results and the most natural outcome possible.
How much does a neck lift in NYC cost?
The price of your neck lift will depend on the extent of correction needed. The exact cost of a neck lift will be determined at your consultation appointment with Dr. Miller.
