Top 5 Ways to Treat Wrinkles

Filed under: Botox,Dr. Philip Miller — Dr. Philip J Miller @ 10:01 am

The treatment of wrinkles is a quickly growing industry, as people attempt to stave off the effects of aging. Some of the most common treatments for wrinkles involve lotions and oils, injections, surgery and laser resurfacing.

For those who are only a little committed to treating their wrinkles, there are a plethora of anti-wrinkle creams. These treatments usually require daily or sometimes twice daily application of creams and lotions to the face to prevent the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Some include a gentle depilatory agent, stripping off the top layer of skin to reach the healthier skin below. Most also include strong moisturizers as dry skin can emphasize the appearance of wrinkles. Some of these moisturizers can sometimes help to plump up skin cells, which causes them to help fill in the lines and wrinkles.

Another way some women are combating wrinkles is through the use of Botox and Fillers Injections such as Juvederm and Restylane. Dr. Miller uses fillers to plump up an area and remove wrinkles by restoring a youthful look to the area treated. Botox treatment for wrinkles involves a form of botulism being injected to a particular area, often the forehead and area near the eyes, to paralyze the muscles that cause wrinkles there. The treatment lasts three to six months. Wrinkles are minimized because the facial muscles used for furrowing the brow and other wrinkle-causing movements are effectively relaxed by the Botox injections.

Another recent development in the war on wrinkles is laser-skin resurfacing. Like chemical peels and facials designed to remove the top layer of skin, laser-skin resurfacing is designed to remove layers of skin and improve the look of the skin by revealing the healthier, tighter skin beneath the surface.

Finally, some people still resort to the more traditional method of fighting wrinkles, Plastic Surgery. With surgery skin can literally be pulled tighter in an effort to get rid of wrinkles. The most common kinds of wrinkle treatment via plastic surgery are brow lifts which remove excess skin on the upper eyelid and improve the look of drooping eyelids. The other common form of plastic surgery removes excess skin under the eyes and removes wrinkles that way. Dr. Miller can perform a Facelift, Blepharoplasty, or Browlift to remove wrinkles and excess skin.

Unemployment Stats Relationship with Baby Boomer’s Receiving Plastic Surgery

Last month the mainstream media was talking about baby boomers receiving plastic surgery and the reason was because both men and women wanted to look as young as they felt. Although that statement still stands to be true, a recent reporter’s outreach to his following in Portland, Oregon sheds some additional reasoning as to why there has been a trend for baby boomers receiving plastic surgery; jobs. According to the AARP, on average, laid off workers 55 and over are unemployed for 25.2 weeks compared to younger workers who are unemployed for 20.6 weeks. Another reason is because traditional surgery is not the only option available for people interested in turning back the clock. Lasers, Botox, facial fillers, Pelleve’, & Ulthera are all popular non-surgical options being used today. And although results are not as long lasting as traditional surgery, they can be very effective and affordable.

Spring has finally arrived in New York and along with it the warmer temperatures, but for some New Yorkers that also means they need to worry about excessive sweating. Known as Hyperhidrosis, it’s estimated that 1 – 3% of Americans are affected with this disorder. However, the Internal Hyperhidrosis Society reports that up to 15% of American’s complain they sweat all the time. Although prescription deodorants can provide some help for people, Botox can be a much more effective treatment. Typically we think of Botox for removing our facial wrinkles, but it is also a great treatment for controlling underarm sweat. Even people who don’t fall within the category of “excessive” sweating are finding the benefits of Botox for their underarms to be a great solution for controlling their perspiration.

The latest media buzz around Kim Kardashian is if she started another new fad dubbed, “Defensive Aging”, by receiving Botox at an early age. You may argue that she is one of the youngest public figures who has openly received Botox, but the fad for young adults in there 20s and early 30s receiving Botox is hardly new. Although there are split opinions on defensive aging, one study called, “The Botox Twin Study”, had two identical twins (women), one of which received Botox 2 – 3 times a year for 13 years. Based on this isolated study, the one twin apparently did look younger.
