Chin Implants and Reduction in New York
Facial harmony translates into a greater level of attractiveness, and the chin is one of the main features that contribute to a well-defined structure of the face. If the chin is weak or disproportionately positioned, it can detract from one’s overall appearance, making your nose or upper lip look bigger than they actually are. Fortunately, these forms of facial asymmetries can be corrected with two basic techniques: chin reduction and chin implant surgery.
Philip J. Miller, MD, FACS, is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon in Manhattan that offers a variety of procedures for the face, including chin implant and reduction procedures. His proprietary NatraLook process evaluates and expands the typical plastic surgery experience into a safe, un-intimidating opportunity to explore your aesthetic confidence.
How Genioplasty Works
Genioplasty is a type of chin augmentation surgery. It involves correcting and enhancing asymmetries in the jawline and chin areas. Genioplasty surgery for reshaping the chin can be performed by either using chin implants to enhance facial contours and correct a weak chin, repositioning the bone that supports the chin, or cutting bone away to reshape the chin and jawline.
Chin genioplasty recovery time is typically about 2-8 weeks, depending on the specific procedure performed and the extent of the correction. Most patients can return to work within 1-2 weeks, while strenuous activity should wait for 6-8 weeks.
Genioplasty vs. Chin Implant
While genioplasty targets the bone to reduce or project the chin and jawline, a chin implant is strictly used to increase the projection and definition of the chin. Dr. Miller will assess your specific situation and discuss your concerns and aesthetic goals in detail to determine which surgery is right for you.
How Much Does Genioplasty Cost in New York?
Genioplasty can cost anywhere from $4,000 to $10,000 in New York City. However, the true cost depends on factors like the patient’s aesthetic goals, the length and involvement of the surgery, how big the implant is, the material of the implant, and the surgeon’s experience. The actual cost will be provided during your consultation. For more information on genioplasty costs, please contact Dr. Miller's office.
Chin Reduction Surgery in New York
Chin reduction surgery is performed to reduce an overprojected or prominent chin. It is an outpatient procedure and is typically performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon places a small incision either inside the mouth or underneath the skin of the chin. The excess bone is removed or shaved off, and the chin is contoured to the patient’s desired shape. The surgeon will close the incisions with sutures.
Chin Implant Surgery in New York
Chin implant surgery is typically performed to augment a weak or recessed chin. This places an implant directly on the bone to create a new shape and add definition to the jawline. Patients may choose from a silicone chin implant or devices created from substances such as medpor or goretex. All chin implants that are approved to be used in the USA are safe.
Local anesthesia is commonly used for chin implant surgery. A small incision is made between the chin and the neck skin, hidden in a natural crease to minimize any visible scar. The implant is then inserted into a small pocket over the mandible and the incision is closed. Immediate chin implant recovery is typically about 1-2 weeks but the final result is visible after 3 months.

Chin Implant Cost in New York
Chin implants can cost anywhere from $3,500 to $7,000 in New York City. True cost varies from patient to patient, depending on factors like the patient’s aesthetic goals, the length and involvement of the surgery, the type of chin implant used, and the surgeon’s experience. The actual cost will be provided during your consultation. For more information on the cost of chin implants, please contact Dr. Miller's office.
Double Chin Reduction
A double chin is a common concern among New Yorkers and Dr. Miller also offers procedures for this issue. Double chin reduction is often performed using liposuction to eliminate the chin fat, creating a smoother transition from the jawline to the neck. Double chin reduction surgery is minimally invasive and typically only requires a few days of downtime afterward.
