The Lip Reduction Procedure

Dr. Miller will perform the lip reduction procedure in his office surgical suite in New York City. The procedure will take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete, using a light sleep anesthetic; although this can change should an additional procedure be included.

First, Dr. Miller will apply a local anesthetic to the lips. An small incision will then be made across the inner lip. From here, excess tissue and fat will be excised. Finally, the lip will be sutured for appropriate healing.

A lip reduction may be performed alone, or it may be paired with another cosmetic procedure to produce optimum results. Patients can find satisfying results by including a lip lift, rhinoplasty, cheek augmentation, or a facelift.

This is a natural method of skin rejuvenation that does not require chemicals, lasers, fillers or injections. Instead, a process is used in which hundreds of microscopic pin pricks are created on the skin, triggering the body’s natural wound healing process and the production of new collagen. First discovered in the 1940’s, today’s methods of needling are much more sophisticated and are used routinely around the world. What to Expect

During the needling procedure, a topical anesthesia is used to minimize pain and ensure the patient’s comfort. Once the skin is numbed, a sterile needle is inserted 1 to 2mm into the skin, creating a shallow puncture wound which triggers the body’s natural healing process and the production of new collagen. Multiple insertions are made on the skin throughout the treatment area.

After treatment, swelling is minimal and patients heal within a few days. Redness is common in the treatment area and lasts for three to five days. Ointment must be applied regularly during the first 3 to 7 days after treatment. Patients may see improvement in as little as a few weeks after each procedure with continued improvement occurring over the course of several months. The skin will appear smoother and tighter with diminished lines and wrinkles. Repeat treatments should be spaced at least 6 to 8 weeks apart.

With a neck lift procedure, Dr. Philip Miller in New York, is able to diminish the toll that time and gravity have taken on the neck. Often, patients may undergo neck lift surgery in conjunction with a facelift for a comprehensive rejuvenation of the head region.

About the Neck Lift Surgery

During this surgery general anesthesia is administered for the removal and tightening of the excess skin, muscles, and tissues. Fat may also be removed. When a neck lift is performed on its own there are different options for techniques that can be used. Liposuction may be used to remove excess fat with the use of a narrow tube called a cannula. The cannula dislodges fat and removes it through a small incision below the chin. Once the extra volume is gone, skin can be excised and tightened. This tightening is also done in many instances where liposuction has not occurred to address skin that has begun to sag as a result of time. Incisions are placed under the chin and/or behind the ears and gently pulled back.

When unwanted band lines are present, portions of neck muscles may be tightened through incisions in the same locations. After the muscles are realigned, sutures are placed within the neck to keep them in place.
Bandages are applied at the end of the neck lift. An elastic garment may be recommended to be worn for a period of time. Dressing and drainage tubes placed during surgery may be removed within 1 to 2 days. Sutures are removed within 5 to 10 days.

What to Expect During Recovery

After surgery in our New York office, mild pain or discomfort may be felt. This can be controlled with medication prescribed to you by the surgeon. You will notice some swelling and bruising, which can be minimized with cold compresses. Keeping the head elevated will also limit swelling. Most people return to work in about two weeks.
