Turn Back Time with a Facelift
Facelifts are a popular plastic surgery procedure in New York to tighten skin that has naturally started sagging due to weakened tissue and muscle. A traditional facelift focuses on the lower portion of the face, jawline, and jowls. Tissue known as a superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) can be lifted and tightened, and loose skin can be removed or redistributed to create a more youthful facial contour.
Don’t let sagging skin bring you down; you can alter your skin with a facelift to feel more comfortable and confident in your look. A facelift provides long-lasting and natural-looking results for a more youthful look. It can:
- Define the jawline
- Improve facial contour
- Diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth
Dr. Miller offers different types of facelifts at his Manhattan office, including:
- Traditional Facelift: Incisions are made at the hairline, continue in front and behind the ears, and extend to the lower scalp. Muscles and skin are lifted and tightened, and closed with sutures. This is the most extensive facelift procedure, which also produces the most dramatic results – often shaving as many as 10 years off the appearance.
- Mini Facelift: This procedure uses shorter incisions and targets areas that are just beginning to wrinkle or sag. This minor outpatient treatment can be accomplished in less than 90 minutes. Results are not as dramatic and usually last 5-7 years.
- Thread Lift: A unique thread with tiny barbs is used to pull the skin up and back. This thread latches onto the skin and remains in place to keep the skin smooth. The result is a firmer, lifted look that can last up to one year or longer.
- Micro Lift: This minimally invasive procedure creates the look of tightened hair one achieves with pulled-back hair. It is a quick and safe procedure that provides facial refreshment with little downtime.
Dr. Miller will discuss your facelift options in-depth and walk you through the process to achieve a customized, refreshed look for 2022.
Achieve Facial Harmony with Rhinoplasty
Changing the shape of your entire nose, or even just a part of it to make it more harmonious with your face, requires an expert surgeon. Rhinoplasty, more commonly referred to as a “nose job,” can change the shape of your nose to create a balanced look or improve breathing issues from a deviated septum. It is a common procedure but one of the most complex operations to perform.
Dr. Miller can address cosmetic concerns you have about your nose to feel more confident in your appearance. He will spend ample time discussing your issues and goals so he can create a customized procedure plan for you. Considerations to achieve facial balance include:
- The prominence of your cheeks and jawline
- Skin thickness and quality
- Overall dimensions of your nose
Take the leap and schedule your rhinoplasty consultation with Dr. Miller today.
Chin Up with Our Proprietary Jawline Contouring
While plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures are mainly thought to benefit women, men can also enjoy aesthetic improvements with procedures designed just for them. The proprietary G.I. Jaw procedure—jawline contouring—was invented by Dr. Philip Miller to enhance the jawline and chin to create a chiseled appearance, particularly for his male patients.
The procedure creates the classic look men desire—a sharp, square chin and strong jawline. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 54% of all chin and jaw contouring procedures are performed on men. Under the care of Dr. Miller in NYC, you can achieve an ideal jawline and facial shape without surgery. The G.I. procedure improves:
- Facial symmetry
- A recessed chin
- A weak jawline
- Cheekbones that lack definition
Women and men can make 2022 their most beautiful and confident year yet.
Combine Treatments for Dramatic Improvement
Many plastic surgery combinations are safe and provide additional benefits by completing multiple surgeries at one time. By combining procedures, patients can reduce recovery time, achieve maximum results, and limit their use of anesthetics.
Some safe combinations include:
- Facelift and eyelid surgery
- Facelift and brow or neck lift
- Eyelid surgery and dermal fillers
- Chin or jaw augmentation and rhinoplasty
Dr. Miller can advise you on which procedures to combine to meet your goals quickly and efficiently. Feeling beautiful and confident doesn’t have to take a lot of time; it just takes some help from Dr. Miller and his team to create the customized plan that meets your needs and goals best.
Enjoy a Quick Fix with Our Injectable Treatments
Dermal fillers are a popular minimally-invasive treatment to reduce visible facial lines and restore volume. They can also:
- Plump lips
- Enhance face shape and eliminate shallow contours
- Fill and smooth lines, wrinkles, and deep folds on the face
- Improve the appearance of scars
Dermal fillers help reduce signs of aging and give you a fresh look. They are a simple treatment that makes an impact as a stand-alone procedure or as part of a full facial rejuvenation plan.

Types of Rhinoplasty: Which Nose Surgery is Right for You?
Last Updated: August 12, 2026
Most cosmetic surgical procedures vary in the techniques the surgeon uses. A nose job is no exception to this rule. Rhinoplasty is not one single procedure. Different types of rhinoplasty can address cosmetic concerns, breathing concerns, nasal tip shape, previous surgical results, or subtle contour irregularities.
Key Takeaways
- The six main types of rhinoplasty are open, closed, tip plasty, septorhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and liquid rhinoplasty.
- Open rhinoplasty is often used for more complex structural changes, while closed rhinoplasty may suit smaller refinements with no visible external incision.
- Tip plasty focuses specifically on the nasal tip, while septorhinoplasty can improve both breathing and nasal appearance.
- Revision rhinoplasty addresses concerns following a previous nose surgery and can be more complex because of scar tissue or prior structural changes.
- The right rhinoplasty approach depends on nasal anatomy, breathing function, cosmetic goals, and previous surgery history.
More specialized types of nose surgeries are female and male rhinoplasty, ethnic rhinoplasty, teen rhinoplasty, and micro-rhinoplasty.
What Are The Different Types of Nose Jobs?
The main types of rhinoplasty include open rhinoplasty, closed rhinoplasty, tip plasty, septorhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and liquid rhinoplasty. Each option is designed for different patient goals, from reshaping the bridge or tip of the nose to improving breathing or refining the results of a previous surgery.
Open Rhinoplasty for More Detailed Nose Reshaping
During an open rhinoplasty, the surgeon creates a small Z-shaped incision on the underside of your nose between the nostrils. The open approach allows the doctor to make more accurate and precise changes to the shape of your nose. Open rhinoplasty leaves a tiny incision, but with proper care, the scar fades quickly.
Open rhinoplasty is often recommended when a patient needs more detailed structural changes or more significant reshaping. Because the surgeon has greater visibility of the nasal framework, this approach can be helpful for complex cosmetic or functional concerns.
Closed Rhinoplasty for Minor Nose Refinements
With closed rhinoplasty, the surgeon creates incisions inside of your nose without affecting the skin. The main disadvantage of this approach is the limited visibility of the bone, cartilage, and tissue. However, this type of nose job causes less swelling than open rhinoplasty and can provide correction for minor imperfections.
Closed rhinoplasty may be a good option for patients who need smaller refinements and do not require extensive structural changes. Since the incisions are placed inside the nose, there is no visible external incision.
Tip Plasty for Nose Tip Rhinoplasty
During tip plasty surgery, the surgeon focuses on reshaping the tip of your nose. The procedure is less invasive and doesn’t involve intervention to the nasal bone. The recovery from this type of rhinoplasty is typically shorter than from the traditional nose job.
Tip plasty can help improve concerns such as a bulbous nasal tip, drooping tip, wide tip, or underdefined tip. This type of nose tip rhinoplasty is focused on creating a more refined nasal shape while preserving the rest of the nasal structure.
Septorhinoplasty for Breathing and Nose Shape
During septoplasty, the surgeon repositions your nasal septum to the middle of your nose. This procedure is also known as deviated septum rhinoplasty. After it’s healed, you will find it easier to breathe. Septoplasty alone rarely makes a difference in the external appearance of the nose.
Septorhinoplasty combines functional correction with cosmetic nose surgery. This option may be recommended for patients who want to improve nasal breathing while also refining the outside appearance of the nose. In other words, rhinoplasty can be combined with septoplasty to improve both form and function of the nose.
Revision Rhinoplasty After a Previous Nose Surgery
If you have already had a primary rhinoplasty and are unhappy with the results, you may undergo revision rhinoplasty. This procedure focuses on correcting cosmetic problems that were not corrected by the previous surgery or addressing functional issues that might have arisen after the first procedure.
Revision rhinoplasty is often more complex than the first rhinoplasty because the nasal structure may have scar tissue or previous surgical changes. The goal is to improve the appearance, function, or both, depending on the patient’s concerns.
Liquid Rhinoplasty for Subtle Nonsurgical Nose Contouring
For a liquid rhinoplasty, the surgeon utilizes dermal fillers to create a new nose shape, avoiding any stitches or incisions. Liquid filler cannot make a nose look smaller but can address minor indentations or asymmetries without the need for surgical intervention.
Liquid rhinoplasty is a nonsurgical option for patients who want subtle changes without surgery. However, it cannot correct breathing issues, reduce nasal size, or create the same level of change as surgical rhinoplasty.
Other Specialized Types of Rhinoplasty
Some patients may benefit from a more specialized rhinoplasty approach based on their age, anatomy, background, or aesthetic goals. These may include female rhinoplasty, male rhinoplasty, ethnic rhinoplasty, teen rhinoplasty, and micro rhinoplasty. Each approach considers the patient’s individual nasal structure while helping create results that look natural for their face.
How to Choose the Right Type of Rhinoplasty
The best type of rhinoplasty depends on your nasal anatomy, breathing function, cosmetic goals, skin and cartilage characteristics, and whether you have previously undergone nose surgery. There is no single rhinoplasty technique that is best for every patient.
During a consultation, your surgeon may evaluate:
- Nasal bridge height and shape
- Nasal tip position and definition
- Skin thickness and cartilage support
- Septal alignment
- Nasal airflow and breathing concerns
- Previous nasal injuries or surgeries
- The degree of change you would like to achieve
Philip J. Miller, MD, FACS, evaluates both the appearance and function of the nose before recommending an approach. His background as a double board certified facial plastic surgeon and ENT specialist allows cosmetic goals and nasal function to be considered together when developing a surgical plan.

Men and Facelifts: What You Need to Know
Maybe it’s the competitive, youth-centric society we live in, or perhaps the number of celebrities we see who never seem to age makes us more critical of our own appearance. Whatever the reason, men want to look younger and more attractive and are increasingly turning to facelift surgery to achieve these goals.
Philip Miller, MD, FACS, in Manhattan, New York, is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon that specializes in male-specific cosmetic procedures, with a significant percentage of male patients in his practice. He is well-versed in the evolution of aesthetic standards and how men can boost their confidence as they age by improving and maintaining their appearance.
The Popularity of the Male Facelift
Men turn to facelifts because they want to look and feel better. Some men want to turn back the clock because they feel self-conscious about their appearance as they age, while others want to look younger to compete in the job market. An attractive, youthful appearance is an undeniable asset. A man who has confidence in his appearance will tend to be confident in other areas of his life as well.
Top Reasons Why Men Get Facelifts
Why are more men deciding to go under the knife? Below are five reasons men who’ve undergone facial plastic surgery cite as contributing factors in their decision:
1. They want to look more youthful.
2. They want to feel more confident.
3. They want to be more attractive to women.
4. They no longer like what they see in the mirror.
5. They want to stay relevant among their younger peers at work.
While women get facelifts for a delicate, softer appearance, the opposite is true for men. A man typically receives a facelift to appear more rugged or masculine. An important objective of a male facelift is to create a defined, chiseled jawline and to remove loose skin folds from the neck—a frequent aesthetic concern among men.
Facelift Options
Dr. Miller offers a variety of options for his male patients. By using different approaches and techniques, he can customize each treatment to the precise needs of his patient, ensuring a natural, durable improvement. Some of those options include:
Miller Lift. The “Miller Lift” is a non-surgical facelift technique using a combination of fillers to fill out lines and wrinkles, along with Botox® for a firmer, lifted appearance. Additionally, dermal fillers can address volume loss in the contours of the face. Collagen stimulators and fat eliminators complete the Miller Lift.
Micro Lift. Men who want to reverse the early signs of aging but are not ready for an invasive full-facelift may achieve their goals with a Micro Lift. A Micro Lift improves the appearance of displaced fat and sagging skin on the lower face, as well as jowls.
Facelift (rhytidectomy). The traditional facelift is a comprehensive anti-aging procedure that produces the most dramatic results—improving sagging skin in the mid and lower face. It smooths wrinkles and reduces skin laxity for long-lasting results.
For certain patients, rhinoplasty surgery, eyelid surgery, or laser skin resurfacing can further enhance the results of facelift procedures.
Special Consideration
Facelift incisions are placed differently in males due to beard growth patterns and vascularity. Surgical goals include tightening loose skin, removing fat deposits, and smoothing out lines and wrinkles.
Attention is generally given to the lower half of the face, including the jowl area. Men who undergo a facelift often see dramatically improved definition in the chin and jawline.
About the Procedure
Miller Lift. After the skin is cleaned and prepared, a tiny needle will administer the injectable treatments. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and is performed in-office. You may experience some mild swelling, bruising, itching, and redness around the injection sites, although no downtime is required after the procedure.
Micro Lift. Performed in Dr. Miller’s office-surgical suite, the Micro Lift procedure takes less than an hour with a local anesthetic. Carefully placed incisions are made—smaller than those necessary in a traditional facelift. Excess skin and tissue are carefully trimmed, and the incisions are then closed.
Patients can go home to rest and heal the same afternoon as their Micro Lift procedure, returning to the office a few days later for follow-up and suture removal with Dr. Miller.
Facelift (rhytidectomy). When waking up from anesthesia, you may feel groggy until the effects wear off. Varying degrees of swelling and bruising is normal for 1-3 days after surgery, but you should call your surgeon’s office immediately if these symptoms significantly worsen. Post-surgery, you’ll have regularly scheduled follow-up visits as Dr. Miller closely monitors your recovery.
Many men are pleasantly surprised at how little discomfort they experience after facelift surgery. Dr. Miller may prescribe painkillers, although many patients experience problem-free recoveries and don’t feel the need to take prescription pain medication. Most men are back to regular activities within a week or two.
Recovery and Results
The recovery process and results will vary depending on whether a Miller Lift, Micro Lift, or full-facelift was performed, as detailed above.
When performed well, a patient can look up to ten years younger after a full facelift.
A male facelift can do the following:
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Correct facial volume loss
- Correct or minimize facial scarring
- Tighten loose skin
- Provide a youthful look
- Preserve masculine facial features
You can help extend the results of your procedure with consistent use of sun protection and by maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen.

5 Rhinoplasty Trends in 2022
Rhinoplasty surgery was the most frequently requested cosmetic surgery in 2020, with over 352,000 procedures performed.
Facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Philip Miller in New York City—one of the country’s leading experts in rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation—can help you achieve a nose you’ll love. You may choose traditional rhinoplasty to reduce or reshape the nose. For other patients, non-surgical rhinoplasty is the right choice to achieve their aesthetic goals.
1. Zoom Boom Brings Rhinoplasty Boom
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 was a challenging year for many businesses. But for Zoom, the video-conferencing giant, lockdown and working from home brought unprecedented growth.
Zoom usage jumped 67% between January 2020 and mid-March, when non-essential businesses and schools closed. The Zoom Boom also resulted in significant growth to an entirely different industry—cosmetic surgery.
The built-in cameras on our computers are clearly not designed to flatter the human face, and many people weren’t pleased with the reflection they saw on their computer screens.
The unflattering camera angle highlights facial flaws, such as wrinkling and sagging. People noticed unfamiliar lines, creases, and asymmetries as they saw themselves speaking on camera.
It’s not surprising that the Zoom phenomenon caused a booming demand for cosmetic procedures such as dermal injectables, laser treatments, and eye lifts.
On a Zoom conference call, the position of the computer’s camera relative to the user puts the focus on the center of the face, making the nose appear larger. As a result, demand for rhinoplasty significantly increased as well, and will likely continue into the New Year.
2. The Need for Natural
In Manhattan, Dr. Miller is renowned for the natural results he achieves for his patients, both with traditional rhinoplasty—for patients desiring more significant changes and permanent results—as well as non-surgical rhinoplasty, for patients seeking relatively minor corrections. As demands for natural results will continue to be a factor in 2022, Dr. Miller is prepared to deliver satisfying results to his New York patients.
Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure that can improve the appearance of the nose by reshaping, reducing, augmenting the tissue, removing a bump, or adjusting the angle between the nose and the mouth.
A major benefit of rhinoplasty is that it’s typically a “one-and-done” procedure. Once the surgery is complete and the nose has fully healed, patients can enjoy the improvements over their lifetime.
If you’re dissatisfied with your nose because of minor depressions or hollows that affect its overall appearance, non-surgical rhinoplasty may be the right solution for you. Non-surgical nose jobs are safe and effective, providing immediate results with exceptionally short recovery time. With this non-invasive procedure, injectable fillers are used to make small yet dramatic modifications to the nose.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty has its limitations, however. Since corrections are made with dermal fillers that ultimately dissolve, results aren’t permanent. Non-surgical nose jobs aren’t appropriate for every nose and can’t reduce the size of the nose.
Results will vary by patient, but the longevity of a non-surgical nose job is typically between 8-24 months. During your consultation, Dr. Miller will determine which fillers might help you achieve the best results and how long the improvement might last.
3. Faster Recovery Times
Plastic surgeons today are starting to use techniques to minimize post-procedure discomfort and healing time. Rhinoplasty is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia, and patients return home on the same day. While you may be up and moving within 24 hours, expect to take up to a week off from work or school as you heal.
For the first several days, you’ll need to keep your head elevated and apply ice packs to reduce swelling. Most swelling and bruising subsides within a week following rhinoplasty. Nasal dressings, splints, and sutures are removed at about seven days after surgery. At this point, any residual bruising can be effectively camouflaged with makeup. Most patients feel comfortable appearing in public at about 7-10 days post-surgery.
Swelling will continue to subside and the nose may continue to improve in definition for up to a year after surgery. However, beyond the first week, these changes are subtle and typically not noticed by others. Many patients are pleasantly surprised at how quickly they recover from rhinoplasty.
4. The Combination Approach
Achieving facial balance sometimes means making adjustments to the chin at the same time as the nose. Dr. Miller’s expertise with both procedures produces superior results.
When rhinoplasty surgery is performed to improve the overall shape and appearance of a nose, a receding chin could diminish the aesthetic effect of the face, making it look unbalanced.
To achieve the best possible results with rhinoplasty, the proportions of the entire face must be considered. If your chin is well defined and proportionate to your new nose, your overall appearance will be aesthetically enhanced by rhinoplasty alone.
If you have a receding chin, however, chin augmentation surgery performed along with rhinoplasty surgery can give your face balance that rhinoplasty alone could not have achieved. Therefore, many board-certified plastic surgeons are beginning to suggest chin augmentation with rhinoplasty for certain patients.
Recovery after a chin implant takes around two weeks. You may experience swelling, tenderness, and bruising in the chin area immediately after the procedure, but most of these symptoms will diminish within about a week. Eating soft foods during the first week after surgery will help to make your recovery period more comfortable.
5. Image Morphing
The ability to “see” your results before surgery is a benefit that more patients are wanting from their rhinoplasty surgeon. At his Manhattan office, Dr. Miller uses computer imaging to help patients visualize their new nose before undergoing surgery. Besides helping communicate the goals of the patient to the surgeon before the procedure, image morphing also helps ensure patient expectations are in line with results.
If you have difficulty visualizing what your ‘after’ may look like, image morphing can help. While the final result may not be absolutely identical to the morphed picture, it provides a good idea of what you can expect.

Turn Back the Clock with a Facelift
Manhattan’s world-renowned facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Philip Miller, specializes in facelifts and rhinoplasty. He offers several facelift options: a traditional facelift, a mini facelift, a Micro Lift, or the proprietary Miller lift. One of these is sure to be the right one for you.
Facelift Options
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, may be the perfect procedure for you if you’re looking for results that significantly turn back the clock. This procedure removes excess or sagging facial skin for a renewed, youthful look.
During a traditional facelift, incisions are made at the hairline and continue in front of and behind the ears, extending to the lower scalp. Fat can be redistributed from your face and neck through these incisions, or liposuction may be used for the removal of excess fat. Muscles and skin are lifted and tightened.
Incisions made during facelift surgery are hidden in the natural creases of your face and hairline, and meticulously closed with sutures to minimize visibility after your procedure. Drainage tubes may be inserted but can be removed in 1-2 days. Sutures are removed between 5-10 days.
A mini facelift targets those areas of the face that are just beginning to wrinkle and sag. The incisions are shorter than a traditional facelift, and often confined to the front of the ear only. The mini facelift requires local anesthesia and can be performed in 90 minutes or less.
The innovative, minimally invasive Micro Lift mimics the improved appearance that comes with pulled-back hair. It can be a perfect option for patients in their 20s-40s who want to erase early signs of aging. Comfortable, safe, quick, and performed under local anesthesia, the Micro Lift takes less than an hour in the office and requires little post-procedure downtime.
The Miller Lift is a proprietary, custom-designed liquid facelift technique that uses a combination of fillers, such as Juvéderm® and Restylane®, to soften and fill out lines and wrinkles. Besides smoothing wrinkles, facial fillers can address volume loss in the cheeks, chin, lips, and other contours of the face.
Along with facial fillers, Dr. Miller performs injections of Botox Cosmetic® to address the dynamic wrinkles associated with facial expressions, such as forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Collagen stimulators, such as Sculptra, and fat eliminators, such as Kybella, round out the Miller Lift. Results can last for up to two years.
Achieve Balance with a Rhinoplasty
Surgical vs. Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
Surgical rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, adjusts, corrects, or reduces the look of the nose. Dr. Miller will consider the prominence of your cheeks, your jawline, your skin thickness and quality, and the overall dimensions of your nose before advising you how to achieve the changes you want while maintaining overall facial balance.
A major benefit of rhinoplasty is that it’s typically a “one-and-done” procedure. Once the procedure is complete and the nose has fully healed, patients can enjoy the results for a lifetime.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also known as liquid rhinoplasty, uses injectable fillers to make subtle, yet dramatic changes to your appearance.
Miller will give you an idea about what you might expect from your results as well as how long they might last.
Quick Pick-Me-Ups: Botox and Dermal Fillers
Surgery isn’t your only option for rejuvenating your appearance. Injectables minimize wrinkles and add volume in areas that lack fullness. With little-to-no downtime, injectables deliver results in a matter of days so that you can enjoy your fresh, youthful appearance right away.
Botox relaxes the muscles that pull on the skin to form wrinkles. Botox Cosmetic is superior to dermal fillers for minimizing frown lines, horizontal furrows on the forehead, and crow’s feet around the eyes. It can also be used around the lips, around the nose, or on the bands of the neck. Results last up to four months.
Dermal fillers, including Restylane® and Juvéderm®, are gel-like substances that restore volume. They fill in creases and static wrinkles, which form from gradual volume loss. Hollow cheeks, saggy jowls, and under-eye bags are common treatment areas for dermal fillers, which can last up to 12 months or more.
Dr. Miller and his team of skin specialists in New York provide the latest and most effective wrinkle treatments. Using various injectables, Dr. Miller can restore facial volume, reduce deep wrinkles, and help rejuvenate and lift the face.

7 Questions to Ask Your Facelift Surgeon
A facelift may smooth sagging skin and tighten the tissue underneath the skin to give your face a fresh look. If you desire a more permanent improvement to the features of your face, a facelift may produce the beautiful glow that boosts your confidence and lifts your spirits. If you have questions about something as important as facelift surgery, don’t be afraid to ask your surgeon what you desire to know.
Dr. Philip Miller is your Manhattan, New York, and New Orleans, Louisiana, expert on all types of facelift surgery especially deep plane facelift surgery. He is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon who will answer every question you have about this procedure. The following seven questions are frequently asked by people who choose to undergo facelift surgery. When you schedule your consultation with Dr. Miller, have your questions ready so you are prepared to move forward if you decide a facelift is the right choice for you.
1. Am I a good candidate for a facelift?
Facelift surgery is not a procedure you should decide to schedule on the spot. You should do your homework, research your options, and choose a surgeon who specializes in facial plastic surgery. Dr. Miller will provide you with a comprehensive consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for a facelift. There is no “perfect” age for a facelift – when you look in the mirror and see skin laxity, creases, and facial hollowing that indicate you need a change, that is when you need to schedule your consultation. Dr. Miller can help you determine if facelift surgery or another procedure is the best option.
2. How often do you perform this procedure?
Dr. Miller has focused on facial procedures for over two decades. That means all of his time goes into treatments for the face, while a general plastic surgeon might divide time between the face and body procedures. His double board-certification and expertise in facial plastic surgery are also a guarantee that you will receive the best attention for your needs.
3. What type of facelift will work best for me?
There are several options with facelift surgery, so during your consultation with Dr. Miller, you will learn about the different types of surgery that meet your needs. Based on the results you desire, you may choose the traditional facelift, or a procedure like the micro or mini facelift that are less invasive and a good option for earlier signs of aging. No matter which facelift you choose, Dr. Miller’s NatraLook consultation process will ensure you build trust with your surgeon and receive professional, expert advice from one of the country’s leading experts on facial plastic surgery.
Doctor Miller routinely performs the preferred deep plane facelift as it gives the most natural redraping of descended tissue and restores depleted volume.

Dr. Miller performs the deep plane facelift to restore sagging midface tissue and volume depletion. The deep plane is different than the traditional facelift as it extends the flap further toward the upper midface so that sagging tissue in the cheek and jowl region can be rejuvenated. Not all patients require a deep plane lift, but for those that do, no other surgery can compare.
Traditional Facelift
Dr. Miller performs the traditional facelift procedure by making intricate incisions on your hairline, in front of your ears, and behind your ears near the lower part of your scalp line. Based on your desired look, Dr. Miller will redistribute fat through these incisions, and may also use liposuction to remove additional fat. Don’t worry – the incisions are concealed so visible scarring is minimal afterward. Your incisions will be closed with sutures, and based on the complexity of your facelift, you may have drains in place that can be removed in a couple of days. You will follow up with Dr. Miller in 5-10 days for suture removal. To learn more about a traditional facelift, please visit medlineplus.gov.
Mini Facelift
The mini facelift is another effective option that targets earlier signs of aging. This technique is designed to target specific areas of the face at the onset of wrinkling or sagging. Dr. Miller will make his incisions at the front of the ear, but not behind the ear. The procedure does not require general anesthesia; you will receive a local anesthetic and be done in about 90 minutes.
4. Where and how will you perform my procedure?
Dr. Miller performs all facelift procedures in the surgical suite of his Manhattan office. The surgery suite is accredited and adheres to the strict standards set forth by the Joint Commission.
Surgery, whether minor or major, will require local (focused on a specific region) or general (surgery while you are asleep) anesthesia. Depending on the type of facelift you are scheduled for will determine the type of anesthesia used, and will be discussed during your consultation. Traditional and mini facelifts – both designed to give you a fresh new look, are performed differently, and are tailored to your precise needs and goals. Dr. Miller performs a variety of facelift techniques, to ensure your results are beautifully natural and distinctly you.
5. What happens after surgery? What will my recovery look like?
Your recovery is a process of resting and healing to ensure you see the best results. If you had general anesthesia, you may remain in our surgical suite for a short period to allow the effects of general anesthesia to wear off before you leave. A local anesthetic may produce numbness but will wear off soon after the procedure is complete. Make sure you have a ride home after your surgery with a friend or family member who can stay with you for the first 24 hours of your recovery if possible.
Recovering at Home
You will be sent home with dressings in place to protect the incisions and sutures. Drains may also help to drain fluid from the surgical site. Soreness and tightness on your face are normal after surgery.
Facelift surgery of any kind may produce some swelling or bruising. If you experience any unexpected symptoms, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Miller’s office right away. Rest assured that Dr. Miller will also keep in touch with you during your recovery process and through your post-operative appointments.
You may receive a prescription for pain medication prior to your surgery, but many of Dr. Miller’s patients report they did not require the medication as their recovery was more comfortable than expected.
Your recovery time may not be textbook, but most people can return to work and normal activities within a couple of weeks. Excessive activities, such as exercise or heavy lifting are not recommended for about a month after your surgery. During your recovery at home, stay active (but not too active!) to ensure your blood circulation is promoting the healing process. You will be instructed to avoid medications like aspirin or other blood thinners, as these can cause excessive bleeding after your surgery.
One of the most important parts of your recovery is following the instructions provided by Dr. Miller. His guidance will provide you with a step-by-step overview of how to prepare for your surgery, what to expect during and after surgery, and how to recover properly by caring for your incisions. Make sure you keep all of your scheduled follow-up appointments, and in time, you will see the benefits of your surgery with a refreshed, more youthful appearance.
6. What can I expect from my results?
You may be wondering about the results of your facelift – how will I look? Dr. Miller is a double-board certified facial plastic surgeon, the best you can ask for with facelift surgery. You may see as much as 10 years taken off, but one of the best testimonials for facelift surgery are the before and after photos. Dr. Miller’s staff will take before and after photos so you can see the drooping and sagging disappear.
7. What will the cost of my procedure be?
The cost of your surgery varies depending on which facial procedure you choose. The details of the cost will be discussed during your consultation. You must also consider other costs associated with the surgery, which might include a facility fee, the surgeon and anesthesiologist fees, and any postoperative supplies you may need for recovery. Facelift surgery is considered cosmetic and elective (not medically necessary), and would not be covered by your insurance. Remember that the costs vary and are not inexpensive, but if a facelift is not in your range of affordability, Dr. Miller can recommend other procedures that may provide a similar look without the same cost.

Functional or Cosmetic Rhinoplasty – Which One is Right for You?
The decision to schedule an elective or medically necessary surgery is not an easy one, and should be done with the goal of correcting a physical feature or medical condition to gain self-confidence or improve quality of life. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that may provide multiple benefits for a patient, from cosmetic enhancements to improve appearance, to reconstruction of a nose or associated anatomy, such as the septum, to improve function.
Dr. Philip Miller is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon and recognized expert in rhinoplasty. He will guide you in making the right decision on which procedure is best – functional, or cosmetic rhinoplasty. Your self-confidence and your health deserve the very best, and Dr. Miller can give you exactly what you need. Whether you are a patient in Manhattan, New York, or New Orleans, Louisiana, you will find the best with Dr. Miller.
What is Functional Rhinoplasty?
The meaning of functional rhinoplasty is in the title – the surgery provides improved functionality to the respiratory system by altering the nose, septum, or other parts of the nose to improve breathing. Functional rhinoplasty, such as septoplasty, turbinate reduction, or surgery to mend a broken nose, can correct internal nasal anatomy that is otherwise impeding the normal process of breathing.
Reasons for a Functional Rhinoplasty
Patients who seek Dr. Miller’s expertise with functional rhinoplasty procedures may have one of a number of reasons to schedule a surgical procedure, which may include:
- Nose injury due to trauma
- Birth defect
- Deviated septum
- Other conditions, such as severe allergies that alter the internal anatomy of the nose
Any of the above conditions have the potential for causing problems with breathing or other respiratory functions, so it is very important to choose a facial plastic surgeon for your procedure. Their training is extensive as they are also board-certified ENT physicians and have a thorough understanding of the anatomy and functionality of the nose. A comprehensive consultation with Dr. Miller and the NatraLook process guides you in making your decision to schedule your procedure. Let the results of your surgery, not the condition of your nose, take your breath away.
What is Cosmetic Rhinoplasty?
Cosmetics improve the appearance of the face; foundation, eyeshadow, liner, blush, powder, mascara, and lipstick are the basic tools in anyone’s makeup kit, but what if one feature of your face is not to your liking? Simple cosmetics may enhance the eyes, cheeks and lips, but the nose cannot change its size or shape with shading or color. A cosmetic procedure, however, can reshape or resize your nose in a number of ways to streamline and give your nose a better, symmetrical appearance.
Dr. Miller can give you a new reason to smell the roses with cosmetic rhinoplasty that can do some of the following:
- Straighten a crooked nose
- Create better proportion between the nose and the face
- Reduce or widen nostrils
- Alter the tip or angle of the nose to improve appearance
- Remove a bridge bump
These are just a few benefits of a cosmetic rhinoplasty procedure a patient may see after surgery with Dr. Miller, whose expertise will provide amazing results. Reading about cosmetic rhinoplasty is the beginning; take the next step by browsing the before and after gallery of patients who scheduled an appointment with Dr. Miller. What About Septoplasty?
Septoplasty is one of several types of rhinoplasty that is performed to correct a deviated, or crooked septum. The septum is a strip of cartilage in the center of the nose that creates an even divide between the nasal passages, but some people have a septum that is deviated enough to cause severe breathing or sinus problems. Septoplasty is a functional rhinoplasty surgery that can improve the quality of life by straightening the cartilage in the septum, which allows air to pass normally through each nasal passage. Dr. Miller explains how rhinoplasty, and in this case, fixing a deviated septum, can give you a breath of fresh air again.
Because a true septoplasty or functional rhinoplasty may be considered medically necessary, the surgery may be covered by your insurance plan. A combination rhinoplasty (functional and cosmetic) may be partially covered by your insurance plan.
The Combination Approach
Functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty both provide a patient with a positive outlook and more self-confidence with improved appearance and breathing. But can one procedure provide the same results as the other?
Functional rhinoplasty, such as septoplasty, may improve the appearance of a patient’s nose; since part of the cartilage may be removed to straighten the septum, this may act as an added benefit for the patient as it provides a cosmetic effect. Conversely, a patient undergoing cosmetic rhinoplasty to remove a dorsal hump (on the bridge of the nose) may experience improved breathing, as the cartilage in the nose is reduced and altered to change the overall appearance of the nose.
Whether you are changing the appearance of your nose, or improving your ability to breathe, you may experience a combined benefit with long-lasting effects. To learn more about both functional and cosmetic rhinoplasty, please read this blog from American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
A Complex Procedure
The nose is an intricate and unique part of the face that provides your sense of smell and allows you to breathe. On the surface, you want your nose to look pretty and proportional, and ideally, all of the internal facets of your nose should work together to act as an intake for oxygen. Rhinoplasty is a common, yet delicate procedure that requires the expertise of a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon to ensure that your surgery, whether functional or cosmetic, is successful, and meets your expectations.
One of the added benefits of choosing Dr. Miller as your surgeon is the inclusion of the NatraLook process that goes beyond the run-of-the-mill surgery, providing you the opportunity to discuss your needs with Dr. Miller, and creating the best experience that aims to give you confidence and build trust with your surgeon.

Health Benefits of Rhinoplasty
Undergoing rhinoplasty or a “nose job” is not always about vanity. There can be essential cosmetic and functional concerns when considering this procedure. While electing to have rhinoplasty to enhance your appearance is a valid reason to undergo surgery, there are several other medical and psychological reasons for someone to have a nose job. Rhinoplasty can also provide life-changing outcomes for someone with breathing difficulties or those encountering bullying due to their appearance.
Considered one of the country’s leading experts in rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation, plastic surgeon Dr. Philip Miller can help you achieve a nose you will love. Whether by reshaping the nose to complement and enhance your natural beauty and facial symmetry or restoring its functionality by correcting any structural abnormalities that are obstructing your nasal passages, Dr. Miller can help you meet your goals. His approach combines art and science with skill and innovation to provide patients in Manhattan, New York, superior results that exceed expectations.
What are the Health Benefits of Rhinoplasty Surgery?
While rhinoplasty is an effective procedure for nose reshaping in men and women, it also provides several health benefits that may surprise you. Without a doubt, a nose job can enhance your unique attractiveness, but rhinoplasty can impact your physical and emotional health too. Here’s a look at some of the benefits a rhinoplasty procedure provides:
Physical Health Benefits of Rhinoplasty
Improve Sleep
If you’ve been suffering from restricted airflow, you know how this issue can affect your sleep. When some form of nasal issue is causing your breathing problems, rhinoplasty can improve your breathing and sleeping patterns by surgically solving the problem.
Fix a Broken Nose
A broken nose may not only alter your nose’s appearance but create breathing problems as well. In Manhattan, New York, Dr. Miller can help those who have suffered a broken nose by repairing the fracture. He will reset the nose, correct any fractures with spreader grafts, and restore the septum (the structure that separates the left and right nasal passages) if needed with a septoplasty. Repairing the nose can improve both appearance and function.
Reduce Sinus Issues
Deformities in the nasal passages can also lead to sinus problems. Rhinoplasty will not only help drain mucus buildup but also straighten a twisted or deviated septum, providing more comfort while breathing.
Prevent Symptoms of Sleep Apnea
Snoring is often caused by blocked nasal airways. It is also a symptom of sleep apnea – a sleeping disorder that can lead to serious health problems, including high blood pressure and heart problems if left untreated. While sleep apnea is more common in overweight people, restricted airflow is a known contributing factor too. Functional rhinoplasty allows Dr. Miller to clear the nasal passage to relieve congestion and reduce the effects of sleep apnea. To learn more, please visit pubmed.gov.
Emotional Health Benefits of Rhinoplasty
Greater Success in Professional and Personal Relationships
Because a successful rhinoplasty boosts your self-esteem, it can also open up a world of new opportunities, both professionally and personally. With your newfound confidence, you can navigate daily challenges to make the most of every opportunity. You may even gain the courage to go after a promotion or pursue a new career path.
Rhinoplasty can also improve your social life. When you let your personality shine through instead of feeling anxious about your physical traits, you will have an easier time establishing relationships with others. Improved interactive skills can lead to a livelier social life and deeper personal relationships overall.
No More Bullying
Many children and teens become victims of bullying due to physical imperfections, such as a large or prominent-looking nose. While surgeons typically don’t recommend rhinoplasty for minors, they can perform the procedureon teenagers once their noses have fully developed. For teens battling insecurities and anxiety, rhinoplasty may be a solution. Correcting a crooked or oversized nose can stop bullying and teasing, significantly improving a teen’s confidence.
It is important to note that people should never change their appearance based on how others perceive them. Succumbing to society’s pressure to look a certain way may lead others to get plastic surgery for the wrong reasons. While rhinoplasty provides many benefits, it is not a miracle cure for all of life’s problems. Those who go into surgery with healthy perspectives and realistic expectations are happiest with their results.
