When you’re considering cosmetic treatments to enhance and rejuvenate your own appearance, it is best to pair complementary treatments for optimal, long-term outcomes. One such perfect pair is a facelift and neck lift by Dr. Philip J. Miller.
At his Manhattan, NY plastic surgery clinic, Dr. Miller combines the best treatments for facial rejuvenation. As a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Miller focuses exclusively on treatments for the face and neck, so he is able to create custom treatment plans for each of his patients, using his proprietary NatraLook Process. Dr. Miller is revered as one of the country’s leading experts on facial rejuvenation, and he uses his expertise and years of experience to provide the best face and neck lifts possible. Dr. Miller has three good reasons why he often recommends combining these two treatments into one surgical procedure.
Facelift, neck lift, and dermabrasion to enhance the appearance of a female patient by Dr. Miller. Surgery removes loose skin, jowls, and wrinkles to produce a smoother, firmer facial profile.
1. The Combination Creates a Balanced Look
Many anti-aging and rejuvenation treatments focus on the face because the face is generally what others notice first. Just below, and about as visible as your face, is your neck. Unfortunately, it’s often forgotten when it comes to cosmetic treatments, despite its equal prominence. Both the face and the neck exhibit aging symptoms, but the skin on the neck is thinner and more delicate, so it can sometimes age faster and more dramatically. The aging symptoms you might see on the face and neck include wrinkles, lines, sagging skin, and loss of definition. Facelifts and neck lifts address all these symptoms, and pairing these procedures can give you a consistent youthful glow from the top of your forehead all the way down to your collarbone.
As the face and neck are both subject to the aging process, both should be treated equally. If you lift just one, the lack of balance will cause the treated area to look out of place. The untreated area will also likely be what others notice first, causing you to appear older.
Facelift and neck lift to remove loose skin from the lower face and the neck of a female patient by Dr. Miller.
2. Look Younger for Longer
When you treat a larger area, your overall results are more natural, dramatic, and durable. When Dr. Miller performs your face and neck lifts, he not only lifts the skin, but he also removes excess skin, tightens the underlying muscles, and repositions the natural fat. This ensures a long-lasting, youthful result. The results from both treatments will build on and enhance each other and address more issues than could be fixed with just one procedure. While a facelift alone can minimize jowl formations, a neck lift can further contour your jawline. A neck lift can smooth away wrinkles, while a facelift can remove excess skin on your lower face to reveal your youthful neck. Combining these procedures can give you much greater youthfulness than either one alone.
Facelift and neck lift to address skin laxity and restore definition to the lower face and neck of a female patient by Dr. Miller. After surgery, there is a smoother transition from the chin to the neck with a visible reduction in facial creases.
3. Reduced Cost and Risk
Getting two treatments at once means a quicker, less costly experience overall. You will only need to take one trip to our Manhattan plastic surgery clinic for your procedures, and any follow-up appointments can be used to monitor the recovery process for both lift treatments. The overall cost of your procedures will be less than if you underwent them separately, since combining procedures saves our practice time, money, and resources, too. You will only need to go under anesthesia once, which not only saves you money but also minimizes the risk of complications since anesthesia is a primary risk factor when undergoing any surgery. Perhaps most importantly, you can recover from your procedures at the same time, only needing to take time off work or out of your busy schedule once to heal. Undergoing two procedures does not typically extend the length of the recovery process either.
Miller Lift before and after
Facelift and Neck Lift Alternatives
You may not need a facelift or neck lift yet if your aging symptoms are less advanced or you are unsure about undergoing an invasive surgery. The good news is there are many alternative treatment options you can choose for face and neck rejuvenation.
A MicroLift is much less invasive than a traditional facelift, as Dr. Miller performs it in his Manhattan office in less than an hour and patients only need local anesthesia. This slight lift can diminish the appearance of wrinkles while lifting your face to give you a youthful look. The results from this procedure are long-lasting, and can be a great option for those with minimal aging symptoms looking to refresh their facial appearance without much downtime.
If you’re looking to completely avoid surgery, Dr. Miller offers his proprietary MillerLift technique to lift and refresh the face. This procedure is similar to a “liquid facelift,” and it can target concerns such as:
Wrinkles
Sagging skin
Hollowing
Volume loss
Dr. Miller assesses your facial structure and selects the best injectables to target your concerns and provide you with a complete facial transformation. To find out if a liquid facelift is right for you, please visit hopkinsmedicine.org.
Finally, Dr. Miller can combine either of these treatments with NeckTite therapy. NeckTite involves removing excess fat with submental liposuction, followed by the use of radiofrequency energy to tighten overlying skin under the chin for a smooth, contoured neck and jawline.

If you are considering a cosmetic procedure to improve your appearance, your chin may not be the first feature that comes to mind. However, the chin and jawline can add or detract significantly from your overall look. Fortunately, there are numerous ways to treat this area, to create a balanced and proportionate facial contour.
As a world-renowned, double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Philip J. Miller offers a variety of options for sculpting and contouring the chin and jawline. From quick injectable treatments to long-lasting surgical procedures, Dr. Miller will customize your treatment to your precise needs and goals to achieve his signature NatraLook every time. With more than 20 years of experience, you can rest assured you will receive the highest level of care and superior results when you choose Dr. Miller for your chin procedure.
What a Strong Chin Can Do For You
In a well-proportioned face, the forehead, nose, and chin are all in balance. If the chin is recessed or weak, there can be a perception the nose is too big or the jawline is not proportionate. In men, a well-defined chin exudes masculinity, strength, and attractiveness. In women, a fuller chin can create harmony with the rest of the facial features.
Chin augmentation may provide the following benefits:
Strengthen a weak, recessed chin
Create a more symmetrical jawline
Eliminate the appearance of a double chin
Create a more harmonious facial profile
Balance out a larger nose
Define the transition from the jaw to the neck
In the past, implants were the sole option in augmenting the chin. While this is still the best choice for some patients, there are other choices in chin augmentation today as well. This allows Dr. Miller to tailor treatments to the precise needs and goals of each patient, ensuring patient satisfaction with the most natural results possible.
Surgical vs. Nonsurgical Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation is a procedure designed to correct the projection, asymmetry, or overall shape of the chin. When a chin is recessed, chin augmentation adds projection and definition to the jawline. If the chin is asymmetrical, chin augmentation can be used to balance the contour. In some cases, chin augmentation requires treatment of a double chin, by removing submental fat beneath the jawline. When a chin augmentation is performed well, it can transform the entire balance and harmony of the face.
Surgical chin augmentation often involves placing an implant inside the tissue to create the needed projection. In most cases, this procedure offers permanent improvement. If a double chin is a concern, liposuction is another surgical option that can be used to remove the submental fat. These two surgeries can be performed as stand-alone procedures or at the same time by a plastic surgeon to further enhance the results.
Dr. Miller may perform nonsurgical chin augmentation using injectable dermal fillers. The fillers are strategically placed to provide just the amount of fullness needed to create a more balanced jawline. The advantage of this approach is that you can place a specific amount of filler into a precise location to get just the amount of augmentation you need. The drawback is that filler treatments offer temporary results and will need to be repeated periodically to maintain your improvement.
The Nonsurgical Approach: Injectable Chin Augmentation
Dermal fillers are used for everything from smoothing away wrinkles to restoring youthful volume in key areas of the face. They can also be an effective method of facial contouring, without anesthesia, incisions, or downtime. Dr. Miller uses multiple fillers for nonsurgical chin augmentation, which allows him to personalize your treatment based on your precise needs and desired results. Popular options include Restylane, Voluma, and Radiesse. The right filler for you will depend on the amount of correction you need and the improvement you hope to achieve.
Another option in nonsurgical chin augmentation is facial fat grafting. During this procedure, Dr. Miller removes a small amount of fat from another area of the body, processes it, and injects it into the chin area to boost volume and definition. Fat is injected in a similar fashion to dermal fillers, but it can offer longer-lasting results.
One and Done: Surgical Chin Augmentation
For patients who prefer the one-and-done approach, chin implants might be a better choice. Implants come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, so plastic surgeon, Dr. Miller can choose the implant that will produce the most proportionate, natural result for you. The procedure is performed using local anesthesia and takes about 30 minutes to complete. Incisions are placed under the chin or inside the mouth to minimize visible scarring after surgery. Recovery is about one week. Visit medlineplus.gov to learn more about surgical chin augmentation.
If you want to eliminate a double chin, liposuction is typically recommended. This procedure is also performed with local anesthesia and tiny incisions that allow for the insertion of micro-cannulas. Recovery is just a few days when the procedure is performed as a stand-alone treatment, but it can also be performed at the same time as chin augmentation for a more comprehensive result.
Just for Men: Dr. Miller’s G.I. Jaw® Technique
For men who are looking to chisel their jawline to achieve a more masculine appearance, Dr. Miller has created the innovative G.I. Jaw technique. This combination of procedures is customized for each patient and may include:
Injectables to add volume and contour
Kybella or liposuction to remove submental fat or a “double-chin”
NeckTite, a radiofrequency device that tightens skin without surgery
Medical-grade implants
Dr. Miller masterfully mixes and matches these procedures to strengthen the jawline, improve facial asymmetry, and augment the chin. Recovery and results will vary, based on the specific procedures used.

You have enough going on right now, between planning holiday festivities and trying to stay safe amidst COVID-19. You shouldn’t also have to worry about your appearance as you see friends and family. This “neckvember,” take time for yourself and focus on an area on the body that also doesn’t get enough attention: your neck. Your neck is about as visible as your face, and yet many tend to forget it when scheduling cosmetic treatments, so don’t forget it this month.
As a double-board certified plastic surgeon in New York City who focuses solely on treatments for the face and neck, Dr. Philip Miller can help you achieve a youthful-looking neck and overall appearance, whether you’re ready for a surgical procedure or want to try our many non-surgical options. Dr. Miller has more than 20 years of experience as a plastic surgeon and has written medical textbook chapters specifically on neck rejuvenation, so you can be sure you are receiving the best possible care for your neck rejuvenation treatment.
How Your Neck Changes Over Time
Much like your face, your neck shows signs of aging over time, like sagging skin, loss of definition, and wrinkles. Both these areas have skin that is more delicate than the skin on the rest of your body, which makes them more susceptible to aging symptoms. These aging symptoms stem from the decrease in production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, proteins that give your skin volume and elasticity, characteristics associated with youthfulness and beauty. External influences can also heighten these symptoms. Sun exposure and smoking can both increase discoloration and wrinkles. Wrinkles on the neck can form what’s often called a “turkey neck,” which is a grouping of sagging, wrinkled skin that resembles a turkey’s wattle. Weight fluctuations can also add to this, as well as the formation of a double chin.
Get Your Youthful Neck Back
Aging symptoms may mostly be inevitable, but living with them is not. No matter your concern, Dr. Miller in New York City can help determine the best treatment for you. Consider your goals when selecting a treatment. You may need lifting or fat reduction to achieve a contoured jawline. Maybe you just have a few wrinkles that need to be filled or discoloration you want to be lightened. Whether you’re just starting cosmetic treatments or are ready for a more permanent surgery option, we can help.
No matter which treatment you select, Dr. Miller will take you through the NatraLook Process, an enriching experience to help you discover your full beauty potential and understand all your options for achieving this. Dr. Miller will talk you through your procedure so you can feel comfortable and confident in your choice.
Lift
Sagging skin on the neck is a very common aging symptom that can be treated with injectables, ultrasound and radiofrequency technology, and surgically. Dr. Miller can reduce lines, wrinkles, folds, and creases in your neck with his proprietary Miller Lift, a liquid lift technique he customizes to individual patient needs. By combining dermal fillers and other treatments, Dr. Miller can create a custom treatment plan for your specific needs.
Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology, while Neck-Tite utilizes radiofrequency technology to contour the neck and jowls. Ultherapy works by emitting ultrasound energy into the skin, which causes the skin to react with increased collagen production, a natural substance that keeps your skin firm and youthful. Neck-Tite’s radiofrequency technology can be combined with submental liposuction to remove fat and tighten the skin. That way, you won’t be left with loose skin where fat has been removed. Neck-Tite may also be used to treat jowls.
If your signs of aging are more severe and you are ready to say goodbye to wrinkles, bands, or a “turkey neck,” then it might be time for a neck lift. This surgical procedure can erase these signs of aging for typically between 10-15 years. A neck lift could involve the removal of excess fat with liposuction, the removal of extra skin, and the tightening of muscles and skin. You will need approximately two weeks to recover, then you can enjoy your results for years to come.
Line
A well-defined jawline might be what you’re seeking for a more pleasing, youthful appearance. At our Manhattan office, we offer a wide array of options for sculpting the jawline. With submental liposuction, Dr. Miller can remove fat from under the chin to reveal a contoured jawline. If you’re unsure about liposuction, you can opt for Kybella, the only injectable medicine FDA-approved for fat reduction.
For a more dramatic improvement, Dr. Miller sometimes recommends a chin implant. This can greatly increase the definition in your jawline while giving you a natural result. Dr. Miller uses medical grade silicone implants for the best results. During your consultation, Dr. Miller will take you through his proprietary NatraLook Process to determine if a chin implant is right for you.
Men seeking to define their jawlines can experience the innovative G.I. Jaw® procedure, created by Dr. Miller himself. Dr. Miller combines all the above treatments to help you achieve a sharp jawbone, square chin, facial symmetry, and well-defined cheekbones, all telltale signs of masculinity associated with strength and attractiveness. To learn more about neck rejuvenation, visit ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.
Lessen
Wrinkles and platysmal banding on the neck are aging signs most people want to reduce as much as possible. Dr. Miller uses Botox® to relax the platysma muscles, which helps the wrinkles shrink and become less apparent. These muscles increase in size as you age because they are used so frequently to make facial expressions. Wrinkles found in the neck can be filled with dermal fillers. These fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body. Your body will slowly absorb the fillers, so we can help you create a treatment schedule so you can maintain your results.
Before and After of CO2 Laser Resurfacing to rejuvenate the skin
Lighten
The changes you’re seeing in your neck might have less to do with structural changes and more to do with changes in pigment. CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing can treat acne scars, blotchy skin, and discoloration caused by sun damage. While treating these pigment issues, the device can also address texture concerns and wrinkles, giving you a more complete transformation in one or more treatments.
Make it Last
Want to make sure your neck rejuvenation treatment this “neckvember” lasts even longer? Combine your neck lift with a facelift or mini facelift. These procedures are often performed together and can give you back your youthful face and neck long-term. A traditional facelift requires a longer recovery than a mini facelift, but the results last longer.

As we near October, many are thinking about how they can spread awareness of breast cancer, but at Gotham Plastic Surgery and for others, October is also known as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Started in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, this month has proven to be critical in gaining momentum to helping victims of domestic violence, and Dr. Phillip Miller has taken a prominent stance in ensuring he is playing a part in providing assistance and solutions.
Face to Face: The Domestic Violence Project delivers pro bono facial plastic and reconstructive surgery to domestic violence survivors. The aim is to repair injuries to the face, head, and neck that are the result of violence brought forth by a partner.
Though the goal is to be able to physically address and repair the outward damage caused by a partner, there are other motives behind this work. In addressing the damage and providing necessary reconstructive work, another underlying goal is also met: empowering those who have been affected, thus freeing them from harmful situations and helping them live successful lives. Since the program began in 1994, more than 1,000 women in need have been helped.
Dr. Phllip Miller of Gotham Plastic Surgery volunteers his time and talent to this project, offering relief and empowerment to victims of domestic assault. Dr. Miller specializes in facial plastic surgery in New York and is recognized as an expert in rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation procedures, so he is able to provide an expert level of care to patients within the program. Dr. Miller is even voted among the Best Doctors in America consistently since 2007 and Top Doctor of New York.
Dr. Phillip Miller’s Helping Hands: Carla’s Story
In 2010, Carla was met with an attempt to end her life by her partner. Having to wear scarves to hide the scars on her neck brought on by the attack, she lost confidence and happiness. One scar measured to be a 4 inch vertical mark, and there were several other horizontal scars.
Without Face to Face, a surgery to heal these scars would have cost Carla approximately $8,000. But with the program’s help, Carla received treatment from Philip Miller, MD FACS, and regained some of what she had lost.
“There’s an increase in confidence, there’s an increase in self-esteem. There is a sense of closure,” Dr. Miller said in an interview with NBC7 about the transformation he’s seen after a survivor receives treatment through this program.
In the interview, we see Dr. Miller address Carla, reminding her that though sharing her story will help encourage others, the pro bono treatment was for her to enjoy most of all.
Carla says that the first thing she would do post-surgery was purchase a necklace, no longer feeling the need to hide behind scarves. The successful results of the surgery allowed for Carla to finally shed her neck scarves and reveal her beautiful, healed neck. To watch her interview on NBC7, click here.
Susan’s Story
When philanthropic acts begin, it is hard to stop them; and for good reason. Dr. Phillip Miller has gone on to help a number of other survivors of domestic abuse, including Susan. Susan had an abusive partner who, during their relationship, broke her nose and tore her ear.
Though finding the strength, bravery, and opportunity to remove herself from the situation, Susan still lost quite a bit of confidence. Reaching out to Face to Face, Susan met Dr. Miller and received her own transformation.
Dr. Miller performed a rhinoplasty to fix her nose and an ear surgery to restore her torn ear. The combined surgeries would have cost Susan thousands of dollars. But the charitable acts of Dr. Miller and the many surgeons who volunteer within this charity allow for real internal and external transformations for those who turn to this program for help, at no cost to the patients.
“The fact that I can look in the mirror now and see myself for who I really am, and not what that monster did to me every day, is very empowering,” Susan said when providing her testimony to Dr. Miller. “I feel like I won now, and I took my power back.”
Providing corrective surgery to alleviate the scars, the damage, and the ghastly reminders of traumatic events left on survivors from their partners, is a rewarding feat for everyone involved. While the survivors of domestic abuse have the opportunity to reclaim their power, confidence, and sense of self, Dr. Phillip Miller has the opportunity to pave a new path for each patient.
Dr. Miller is considered one of the country’s leading experts in rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation. He is double board-certified in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, and he’s even written chapters for rhinoplasty and neck rejuvenation textbooks, which means Carla and Susan received the best care possible.
Face to Face: The Domestic Violence project has been around for nearly 30 years, with a number of plastic surgeons ready to assist these survivors. With one million women requiring medical attention from domestic assault each year, out of the five million women who are affected, they are touched by the helping hands of each surgeon that aims to deliver new freedoms to these survivors. Ten years ago, your “anti-aging” routine consisted of good skincare and an occasional facial. But those measures can’t combat the toll of the passing years anymore. You’ve noticed signs of aging that don’t jive with how youthful, vibrant, and active you actually are. No matter what your reasons for being troubled by the signs of aging, you don’t have to try to make peace with them anymore. Nor do you have to jump right into surgical rejuvenation.
Although Dr. Miller is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon based in Manhattan, New York, known for his expertise with rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation, he offers non-surgical facial rejuvenation and minimal surgical improvements as well as complete facelifts. If you’re ready to have your appearance match the inner you but aren’t quite ready to commit to a surgical procedure, here are some alternatives to consider.
For women and men who are scalpel-averse, Dr. Miller offers a non-surgical “Miller Lift.” He instantly restores volume to your skin, re-contours your cheeks, and fills in hollows at your temples and under your eyes with a variety of injectable dermal fillers as well as Botox® or another neuromodulator.
Depending on your needs, a Miller Lift may only take about 30 minutes. That makes it a perfect procedure to undergo a month or so before an important event, such as a wedding. When you consider that a liquid facelift takes less time than getting highlights in a salon, you realize that you have time to turn back time — especially since there’s really no recovery period. You may have a little soreness or pinkness at your injection sites after a Miller Lift, but you can wear make-up and go about your normal activities.
Depending on your needs, Dr. Miller selects from a full range of both hyaluronic-acid based dermal fillers (i.e., Juvéderm and Restylane) and collagen-inducing fillers (i.e. Sculptra and Radiesse). You may also want to consider a fat transfer procedure, in which Dr. Miller removes fat from an area where you have excess (e.g., your abdomen), processes it, and injects it into areas of volume depletion, such as your midface.
Dr. Miller uses Botox to erase wrinkles on your forehead, between your brows, and around your eyes. He can also use it to create a non-surgical neck lift to erase neck bands or to soften your jawline so your face looks more heart-shaped.
Depending on your needs, your Miller Lift could:
Fill in deep creases around nose and mouth
Erase fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face
Restore volume to your midface
Build up your cheekbones for lift and elegance
Fill in under-eye troughs
Slightly lift your forehead and brows
Fill in depleted volume and temples
Restore or enhance lip volume
Lift and smooth your neck
Fillers last between 6 months and a year or more. Botox lasts between 3-4 months. Our staff schedules your touch-up appointments so you continue to look refreshed and vibrant.
Face-Tite™ and Ultherapy™
While a liquid facelift gives you an immediate improvement that you can walk out of the office with, it does require touch-ups. If you are looking for a more long-lasting solution, you can also opt for state-of-the-art technologies that improve the quality of your skin and “train” it to act younger, such as Face-Tite and Ultherapy. These technologies require time to show their results because they’re working in tandem with your own body’s healing and rebuilding processes. However, you can combine them with a Miller Lift to get both the immediate and long-term benefits.
Face-Tite uses the power of radiofrequency (RF) assisted liposuction to remove excess fat from your chin, neck, and jowls. The heat from the RF device also tightens and remodels your skin, leaving you with a tighter, more lifted look overall.
Ultherapy uses sound waves to reach deep into your dermis, triggering a healing process that removes tired old strands of collagen and elastin, replacing them with new, strengthening proteins. Your skin rebuilds itself over 2-3 months until it’s firmer and more lifted.
With Face-Tite and Ultherapy, either alone or together, you can expect results such as:
Tighter skin
Firmer skin
More uplifted cheeks and face
Tighter, more lifted brow
Less sagging around eyes
Firmer, sleeker jawline
No more double chin
Softer facial creases
A more rested and vibrant look
You may even notice that your pores look smaller and your skin is clearer.
“Mini” surgeries
If you’re still in the early stages of aging, a surgical facelift might not be the right choice for you. However, if you’d like something more permanent than a Miller Lift, Dr. Miller might recommend:
Brow lift
A brow lift smooths the aging furrows and creases on your forehead while also slightly elevating your brow. By lifting your brow, you get a more open look that alleviates sagging on your upper eyelids. A brow lift makes you look more alert and energized and is a subtle way to make a big difference in how you feel and are perceived.
Micro Lift
This skin-only mini-facelift is perfect for people who need just a slight bit of elevation to relieve facial sagging. You’ll look fresher, sleeker, and more vibrant. A Micro Lift improves slight sagging around the cheeks, mouth, and jaw.
Facelift
As effective as non-surgical facelifts and minimally-invasive surgeries are, nothing can compare to a complete facelift over the long term. In Dr. Miller’s expert hands, your face and neck are rejuvenated by about 10 years. And your results last that long, too. After your facelift, you can expect benefits such as:
More lifted, youthful cheeks and face
Sleek jawline
No double chin
No jowls
Smooth, lifted neck
Fewer lines and creases
A facelift costs more at the outset but can save you money over time. To learn more about facial rejuvenation, visit ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

Rhinoplasty is an intricate surgical procedure that involves both functional and aesthetic aspects that take an artistic eye and many years of surgical experience to master – it is considered both an art and science, after all. It is because of this complexity that many patients become unsatisfied with their outcome and, in turn, seek a revision procedure. Whether it’s to correct the appearance or functionality of the nose after an initial rhinoplasty procedure, it is important to choose the right facial plastic surgeon to perform the revision rhinoplasty.
Double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Philip J. Miller, MD, FACS, offers world-class rejuvenation in Manhattan, New York. He has over 20 years of experience specializing in facial plastic surgery and other cosmetic surgery procedures. Recognized as an expert in rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation procedures, Dr. Miller is frequently invited to share his specific techniques with his peers at national facial plastic surgery meetings. Most recently, Dr. Miller spoke at the 10th International Symposium of Facial Plastic Surgery and lectured on innovative rhinoplasty techniques. He has been consistently voted among the Best Doctors in America since 2007 and Top Doctor of New York. With his skill, innovation, and artistic vision, he is able to provide thousands of patients with impeccable results.
Why Is Revision Rhinoplasty A Common Procedure?
It is a reality of facial plastic surgery that women, men, or teenagers who undergo a nose surgery procedure will not always be happy with the final outcome of their surgery. It is estimated that approximately 10-15% of patients who undergo cosmetic nose surgery will request a secondary procedure at some point.
Some patients feel that their results look too unnatural and their new nose is not in harmony with the rest of their facial features. They may even have wanted more done and feel underwhelmed with the outcome. Some may encounter worsened asymmetry, while others may have developed new bumps and deviations during the healing process. They are seeking revision rhinoplasty to achieve better cosmetic results.
On the other hand, there are patients who desire revision surgery for functional reasons. After their primary rhinoplasty, they may find themselves suffering from a nasal obstruction, a collapse of cartilage, or excessive scarring.
Another factor affecting the result of a rhinoplasty procedure is miscommunication or a disconnect between the patient’s expectations and that of the surgeon’s. Unlike routine surgeries with concrete objectives (e.g., removing the tonsils or the appendix), rhinoplasty involves a complex combination of the patient’s desires, expectations, and the surgeon’s technique and skill. This simply sets up a situation wherein the patient’s outcome does not always match their aesthetic goals.
These factors, along with the possibility of an outdated technique, an inexperienced surgeon, and complications that arise during the procedure, can impact the results of a rhinoplasty and become reasons for wanting a revision procedure.
Dr. Miller is able to avoid these problems with his NatraLook technique. The NatraLook Process is an enriching experience through which you explore and boost your aesthetic confidence by enhancing your appearance. The NatraLook process helps create a unified vision of your desired result so that you and Dr. Philip Miller know what to expect.
What Can a Revision Rhinoplasty Do For You?
Simply put, revision rhinoplasty is the correction of a previous nose surgery. In some cases, revision rhinoplasty will involve minor corrections that will fine-tune the results of the primary procedure. A revision rhinoplasty can alter the shape, size, and function of your nose. For example, a patient’s first plastic surgeon may not have removed enough tissue and the nose may still appear over-projected or too wide, and the patient still wants a smaller nose. A secondary surgery may address this and achieve the right nose shape. Or, the first surgery may have produced a build-up of scar tissue and the follow-up surgery can resolve that concern.
Any changes in the form of the nose can cause a related change in function. In patients who suffer from nasal breathing issues, the surgeon can perform a septoplasty or a deviated septum repair.
Choosing a Revision Rhinoplasty Surgeon
Rhinoplasty is widely known as one of the most difficult plastic surgery procedures, and a revision rhinoplasty will be even more challenging. The surgery, therefore, should only be performed by a specially-trained and highly-experienced facial plastic surgeon. Base your decision on the surgeon’s experience and credentials, not on the price tag. Usually, the “bargain price” you find may only lead to another “botched” procedure.
Dr. Miller is a world-renowned rhinoplasty surgeon who performs the procedures himself in his Manhattan office. He is double board-certified in both Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery, giving him more experience and skill when it comes to improving the aesthetics of the nose while maintaining good function. And to better help you manage your expectations and create a more precise surgical plan, Dr. Miller can conduct a virtual rhinoplasty in his office. Nobody wants a neck lift. Seriously. If we had our druthers, our swan necks would be lithe and tight until death do we part.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature, time, and the sun all conspire to create loose, crepey, and sagging skin on your neck that makes you look 10-20 years older than your energy and your otherwise glowing skin would suggest. In fact, if you have a turkey neck and only have the budget for one type of plastic surgery or procedure, a neck lift should be your first choice. A neck lift is so essential to a convincing rejuvenation, in fact, that almost all surgical face liftprocedures also include a neck lift.
If you’ve been researching neck lifts, you’ve probably realized that there are a couple of different options. How do you choose a neck lift? The answer depends on what you need.
Phillip J. Miller, MD, FACS, an expert facial plastic surgeon in New York with an artist’s eye and touch is one of the most skilled practitioners of neck liftsin the country. Not only has he written neck lift chapters for medical textbooks, he also developed the innovativeNeck-Tite™ nonsurgical neck lift. With Neck-Tite, Dr. Miller removes excess chin fat and jowls using BodyTite™’s patented radiofrequency assisted lipolysis (RFAL) technology combined with a specialized applicator, which also tightens and contours the neck and chin area.
Benefits of a Neck Lift
Both a surgical neck lift and Neck-Tite resolve a “turkey neck” by tightening sagging skin under your chin or on your jowls that look aged and unflattering. The benefits you can expect with either procedure include:
Tighter, smoother neck
No more double chin
No more jowls
Sharper jawline
Turns back clock 8-10 years
If you opt for a surgical neck lift, Dr. Miller also tightens the platysma muscle that underlies your neck skin. Tightening the platysma muscle makes a surgical neck lift a very long-lasting procedure. You can expect for your neck to look younger than your non-treated peers for 10 years or more.
Candidates for a Neck lift
If you’ve noticed sagging skin under your chin or a softer jawline, you may be a candidate for Neck-Tite or a surgical neck lift. Signs that you could benefit from a neck lift include:
Double chin
Jowls
Crepey neck skin
Sagging skin under the chin
Sagging on neck
Neckbands
Soft, saggy profile
Soft or diffuse jawline
While you can choose whichever procedure you prefer, if you have significant sagging or if your skin has lost elasticity, Dr. Miller may recommend a surgical neck lift. With surgery, he also removes excess fat from your lower face and neck with liposuction.
If you have just a small pouch of skin and fat under your chin, Dr. Miller may recommend a liposuction-only treatment. Liposuction removes double-chin fat, plus slightly tightens your neck skin in the treatment area.
How to Prepare for a Neck lift
If you want to tighten your neck with liposuction alone or with a Neck-Tite procedure, you can relax: You don’t need to do any preparation at all. Dr. Miller and his staff may recommend that you quit smoking and avoid blood-thinning medications for a few weeks before your neck lift.
On the day of your treatment, you simply come to our New York City office. The entire procedure is conducted under IV anesthesia. If you choose twilight anesthesia, you’ll need to take a cab home or have a friend pick you up, because you’ll be sleepy afterward.
If you’re having surgery, Dr. Miller and his staff will provide you with a full list of substances to avoid before your procedure, including cigarettes and blood thinners. You should arrange for someone to help you take a cab home. You should also arrange for household help and take off from work for at least a week while you heal.
Also, be prepared for a few double-takes and long, lingering looks after your neck lift has healed. You’ll look:
Younger
Fresher
More vibrant
If you don’t want anyone to know that you’ve had “work” done, you might want to create a “beard” for your rejuvenation by taking a mini spa vacation or trying a new hairstyle. Your friends and colleagues will envy your new, vibrant look — without any visible, telltale scars to tell them how you achieved it. Adding on to your neck lift
Of course, if you need a neck lift, chances are your face could use a boost, too. Depending on the degree you want to improve and rejuvenate the contours of your face, you might opt for non-surgicalprocedures, such as lasers and dermal fillers, or a type of liquid facelift calledThe Miller Lift that uses Botox® and fillers to lift and re-contour the planes and curves of your face.
If you’re having a surgical neck lift, that’s a great time to add in a surgical facelift, too. Choose from:
Micro-Lift — skin-only lift for slight aging; mimics the lift you get when you pull your hair back in a ponytail or bun
Mini-Facelift — a mini-lift uses shorter incisions to fix moderate lower-face drooping
Facelift — a full facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, lifts the entire lower face, including the underlying SMAS layer, for long-lasting improvement. Dr. Philip Miller almost always recommends a surgical neck lift when you opt for a facelift
